I liked Fallout 2 because it was Fallout without the suck part.

Just kidding. You almost shit your pants when I said that huh?

No really, what I liked about Fallout 2 were the NPC controls, the push feature, the floating text during combat, the new death animations, having items be in the loot screen on a plasma burned corpse instead of lying all over the ground, and the easter eggs, and no not the Monty Python bit.

Hrm. Things about Fo2 that I liked.

Well, I loved New Reno, because that's exactly how I picture a Post Apocalyptic town to end up. My first serious encounter with Post Apoc was in 7th grade when I read The Stand by Stephen King, so New Reno kind of jolted me, because Randall Flagg sets up his headquarters in Vegas in the book. So that was a nice little surprise.

I liked how all of the towns were interconnected in some way (even though I didn't like the sheer number of towns, but that's not what this thread is about), not just the depth of them, but how you could trace a Seven Degrees of Seperation line from almost every town on the map to any other town. That was nice, made the atmosphere seem real, like a civilization beginning again, not just a bunch of sparse groups of huddled masses trying to survive.

The bigger selection of weapons was great. Also, the ability to use just about any weapon all the way through the game. I played through once where I used nothing but an Assault Rifle (after I got it, that is) and still managed to beat the game. In Fo1, it seemed like after awhile, if you didn't have a Plasma Rifle, and high, tagged Energy Weapons skill, you were right fucked.

Of course, the Push option is my best friend. It's so nice to not get stuck anymore and have to reload a game, always afraid that you'll forget to save after doing something important and get trapped in a building by your NPCs.

Being able to talk your way out of most things was good too. I always tag Speech and build it up as far as I can, and it comes in handy. Especially if you have a high Intelligence, you end up getting more quests and the ways to beat those quests. I just like the idea of a fast-talking smoothie who only uses a gun when hard-pressed.

I liked other things too, but I can't remember if they were or were not in Fo1, because it's been so long since I played the original. So I'll stop my list there.

I liked seeing how everything turned out from the first one, ie. the NCR.

But pretty much I liked it because it was a post-nuclear wasteland that gave me the freedom to do whatever I pleased and was longer and larger then the first one.

I'm a sucker for anything post-apocolyptic, and hell, I'll probably even pick up FOBOS for my PS2 collection, but Fallout 2 will never lose its crown of best post-apocolyptic game in my book (at least until Fallout 3 comes out, that is).

the party members were better

while fallout was a good serious game, this a good fun game? A bit like evil dead 2 huh COMPRADRÉ?

Longer

More guns

I played it first?

I like Fallout just a bit more than the sequel, but I can generally pick up FO2 in most places. If someone made a patch that removed the temple=w1n
