Since I know fuck-all about computers aside from turning them on, I got my brother to install my new CD-R drive (he worked at a computer store for a while and assembled a lot of computers). Problem is, Windows Media Player doesn't recognize the drive as a CD-R. Neither does this program I got (HotBurn Pro). My brother tells me that there's only one way to hook up a CD-ROM/CD-R drive, but I think he's shitting me. I'm thinking there must be something wrong with the connection, but he says there can't be.
Can anyone help me? If I don't get to make my rock mix soon I'm going to freak the fuck out. Again, I know jack about computers and computer hardware, so....go slow.
Thanks in advance.
My CD-R drive is a big fat bitch that WON'T WORK

Make sure your CD-R has the correct drive letter associated with it. Your CD-ROM will usually be "D" and your CD-R should be "E", assuming your set-up is the standard Floppy Drive (A), Hard Drive (C), CD-ROM (D) and CD-R (E).
Just open my computer and look at your drives. BTW, what version of Windows are you running?
Every time I've resinstalled my CD-R it always switches the drive letter of the CD-R to "D", which is what my CD-ROM is. It's very simple, I just have to change the drive letters and everything's "hunky-dory" again.

Dude, that is exactly what mine did. How do you change the drive letters, then?OTB wrote:Every time I've resinstalled my CD-R it always switches the drive letter of the CD-R to "D", which is what my CD-ROM is. Assuming your running Win 95/98/ME, do the following:Subhuman wrote:Dude, that is exactly what mine did. How do you change the drive letters, then?
- Go Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System
- After clicking on System you will get a display box, click on the "Device Manager" Tab.
- Expand the "CD ROM" item.
- Double-click on either your CD-R or CD-ROM and you will get another display box. Click on the "Settings" tab.
- You will now see two scroll-down menus near the bottm. Set the letter to the appropriate one, then go to the other drive and do the same for it.
