Okay..I'll admit it...I've used some language that I'm not proud of. I've called people "asshats". I use the phrase "mad phat" and "that's brick" or "ubber lipton"...."All your (insert object name here) are belong to us"...I've been known to use the name "shitknob".
I refuse to use the word "sic" as I have no fucking clue what it means. What does it mean? I hear it on TV in many different ways..I see it on webpages..My friends use it...And no one can explain what it means...
The main thing that pisses me off about this bastardization of English is that it's everywhere...I saw a commercial for AOL, and someone had typed "ah lub muh babee" or some shit...What is this? Can't we just type normally?
I'm not going to knock Ebonics...I happen to like Ebonics...Ebonics actually is a language that has evolved through English and African languages. I'm not talking about words like "hizzouse" or "schizznit" Those are just made up words..Actual Ebonics is a real language, and I can respect it...It's got a set of grammar rules, and specific word mechanics...
This new internet talk that is apparently world-wide is just something thought up by teenagers who think they can type faster by using less letters...But it's actually harder to think through what letters to use and takes a longer time than to just type the actual words..Unless these people are actually total idiots and don't know how to spell words...Typing incorrectly to express pronunciation is another thing...But I still hate to see the word "muh" typed...TYPE "MY"!!!! AHH!

I'll take back the sweeping generalization that I made earlier saying that all L337 speak and general AOL user idiocy humor is stupid.
Some of it is pretty funny, especially if it's pulled off well.
Oh yeah, probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen was at a football game (when I was still in band) and the scoreboard lit up with the words "DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!1111"

I don't mind stupid words mixed together and make whoever is speaking them seem like an angry geek, since the internet hasn't 'caught on' much with my friends. One or two have started saying lol and talk to me about my connection and msn, but one or two find it quite delicous and fantastical. yeaExtremeDrinker wrote:Okay..I'll admit it...I've used some language that I'm not proud of. I think it's latin used after a word for that's how it's spelt? LikeI refuse to use the word "sic" as I have no fucking clue what it means. What does it mean? I hear it on TV in many different ways..I see it on webpages..My friends use it...And no one can explain what it means...
I dunno. Otherwise your friends are sick as hell boi!Pop calture [sic] makes people dumb.
How can people type normally if half of them are meant to be 300lbs pedophiles and the other half are going to come round to my house and beat me up D:The main thing that pisses me off about this bastardization of English is that it's everywhere...I saw a commercial for AOL, and someone had typed "ah lub muh babee" or some shit...What is this? Anyway
I think when used properly it's pretty darn dope or something, liek I've laughed because of the use of it sometimes. And I've gotten...an effect, of most people here because of my ROUTINE :winkwank: so yea, better than sarcasm because it makes sense. Cheers mate.

Spelling Is Correct.
You use this when you're writing a paper with quotes that have misspellings in them and you don't want to be blamed for them, so you just pass on the blame to the original writer. This way the teacher thinks you're really smart and they give you an A.

OzRat is right about the context, but it isn't an abbreviation for "Spelling is Correct". It's a Latin word meaning "thus", and it's used in the sense of "thus I found it".ExtremeDrinker wrote:That explains "sic" on webpages or writing...
How is it used? Do you mean something like, "I'll sic my dog on you"?ExtremeDrinker wrote:...But what the hell does it mean when people say it?

Ozrat, oh joyous Ozrat. Come join me on these forums, for NMA have banned me. You all know that JeffK is just Lowtax(aka Rich Kyanka, whatever) right. Speaking like JeffK is alright in small doses, like "teh", "schmenu", "palay" etc. All this "i wnt 2 b wit u" sh*t on T.V is really pissing me off. Like that new Daihatsu ad. They are really f*cking desperate now. In fact there spelling is so bad it's completely unreadable. System Shock 2 is scary. Now im scared. I hate you.
