XP Customization

Post by Jimmyjay86 »

I am thinking about downloading some of the desktop customizations for XP but am not sure about all the varieties avaliable. I would like to make a custom desktop with buttons almost like a html page - is that possible?

Looking at the Win Customize site, they offer many third party programs to manage different customization schemes. What are the differences between window blinds, etc and do they have any hits on windows performance? Who uses what?

Get Styles XP...It's easily...ehrm...registered. And, it supports themes, skins, and styles....Works with things created for other programs (Like WindowsBlinds), and does a damn fine job..Plus, it eats up ZERO system resources..Loads at startup, gets everything pretty, then closes. It's slightly harder to figure out, than other programs, but they might have fixed it in newer versions..I've got an old beta, and I've had no problems with it...My desktop looks and functions like OSX.

StylesXP...Get it...Good Stuff.

Fuck schemes... To me, an OS is good for one thing: to make it so I don't have to type all the commands into the DOS prompt myself. Well, there is also the plus of being able to have a desktop wallpaper...

I think we should train people on Linux before they can use any other OS....People need to know how to use commandlines.

MSDOS was micorsoft's best OS. I learned on it and would have liked to stay with it instead of jumping onto the pseudo-Mac bandwagon.

But without Windows, there would be no DirectX...And no NVidia...None of the kick-ass games that require Windows.

I got Windows because I was tired of typing papers in DOS...I like pretty things. Win3.11 was the shit.

I was going to make a separate thread, but this one is pretty close to what I was going to ask.

I'm running XP, cruising along DAC, when suddenly all the text on the webpages I access is center-aligned. Normally it is your run-of-the-mill paragraph alignment, like you read here all the time. I didn't do anything to prompt such a change. What the hell is happening?

I tried Microsoft's forums and Dell's forums, but can't get no satisfaction. How about it? Any way I can set things straight?

Dude, you're using a Dell! Build your own PC..You won't have any weird software glitches...

I have a Dell laptop..The first day I used it, I had all sorts of fucked up shit happen on web pages, and everything I downloaded...Dells come "Ready To Use" which means they've got preferences for some applications already set...

I formatted the HD and started over...No problems at all with it anymore.

Let me explain my predictament. I'm on a budget. Because I am currently financing my useless education, I can only afford the hookers who are transgendered, bruised on the neck, and named "Rodnette."

I also cannot afford to build my own PC. I have neither the money or the mental powers to do so.

Does anybody happen to know how I can go about changing text preferences for IE? I mean, I can still read stuff, but it's just another damn headache.

My recommendation is this: Reformat

Because, like ExtremeDrinker said, Dells come with all sorts of shit installed and fucked around with. Reformat and get a fresh Windows XP installation, and you should be fine.

Sorry my XP machine is not used to access the internet right now so I am using the Win 98 machine and a W2000 computer at work. Never had those problems.

Why even bother with XP. Just use windows 98, it's so much faster and games actually work on it. Try www.themexp.org. They have a whole heap of skins, wallpapers and logins and links to software for creating your own styles. That avatar rules jimmyjay.
