It seems criminals don't follow the laws and carry stolen weapons without a permit. Imagine what would have happened if she wasn't carrying a gun...

Portsmouth Police Charge Man, Clear Woman, After Saturday Night Gun Battle

Portsmouth police have cleared a woman, and charged a man, after a gun battle Saturday night.

Police arrested 33-year old Emmitt M. Warren of the 1800 block of Richmond Avenue after he was released from the hospital Wednesday morning where he was being treated for gunshot wounds.

According to police, a 25-year old Portsmouth woman was driving home Saturday night around 11:30pm with her two children when she noticed a vehicle following her.

When she arrived at her residence on Georgia Court in the Peachtree section of the city, the woman says she saw Warren exit the vehicle, display a handgun, and start running towards her in a threatening manner.

The woman, who was also armed, pulled her own gun and fired shots at Warren, striking him in the leg.

Police say Warren dropped his own gun, got back in the vehicle, and fled.

He was eventually located by police shortly after the incident, and identified by the woman. Warren was then taken to the hospital for treatment.

The woman's two children were not hurt during the incident.

The woman's handgun was legally registered, and authorities have determined she acted in self-defense.

Police say the gun used by Warren was stolen.

He is facing three charges, including attempt to kill, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Yeah it sounds like it worked for her but honestly I shudder to think about some armed people assuming wrongly and start shooting wildly without regard to others. It is one thing to know how to shoot and another to take training in combat shooting. And then it is also another thing entirely to know when to use a gun to kill and to frighten or disable. I tend to think especially in the case of police that their training is primarily shoot to kill, rather than shoot to disable.

Most times when a person is confronted by an armed assailant it is by surprise when you really have no chance to whip out a gun. That means that the criminals get another gun.

How is this an argument for concealed carry? If she'd had the gun out, in the open, they would have left her alone.

most of the people I've seen really really should not be allowed to own guns, let alone conceal them on their person.

Openly carrying might have caused the perp to ignore her, Killa-Killa, but no one else would have. In many states it is legal to openly carry a firearm. Technically. However, it will probably cause a great deal of commotion. In some places, it may get you arrested for 'disturbing the peace' or 'scaring the cattle' or somesuch. A lot of people in America believe that firearms ownership is a social disease and that any time you have a gun it's only a matter of time until it goes off and kills someone. These people, I've seen them dubbed hoplophobes, cannot understand that a gun is just a mechanical device with no will of its own.

If a little boy/girl gets blown away by the gun because they thought it was a toy, well as tragic as it may be, its a stupid mistake. Not by the kids, well a mistake but an innocent one, but by the dumbass parents who leave thier shit around and reachable. No gun-ban for good, smart people. Just the dumbasses.

That's not a problem if the parents teach their kids about guns. A friend of mine's dad had an old shotgun (probably didn't even work) leaning against the wall in the kids' playroom. If the touched it, they'd get slapped. They learned quickly enough not to touch firearms without permission. Of course, some people don't learn that quickly, and a kid's bound to have friends that haven't been taught about guns, so guns should be kept somewhere, aside from lying around on the floor.

as from what I have heard there was some incident about counting votes when the president election was called
thus meaning, not the democrats but the conservatives gained power "illegally"

In which case he's full of shit. Bush won the election. Every single one of those recounts Gore wanted was illegal according to the state constitution, seeing as how the election was finalized, and the Supreme Court upheld that.
