I'm not overly fucking fond of Ghost in the shell either, though I loved the theme and characters. Stand Alone Complex(GITS-series) make up for it though, they're fairly interesting.
I wont say Akira sucks, because it doesn't, but it sure as hell doesn't deserve all of the credit it's been given.
The only thing I know about Hellsing is that its got a character that resembles Caleb from Blood 1.
And that's good enough for me, realy, anything with Caleb gets my approvement.

I think most of that has been because it completely changed the way most Americans view animation, and it certainly set the bar for animation quality for any country.
I loved Ghost in the Shell when I first saw it, years ago, dubbed in English. Dubbed, folks. If I can enjoy a dubbed anime, it MUST be good.
I refuse to see Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away unless they're subtitled. That goes for all anime I want to see, actually. People who prefer dubbed anime shouldn't be allowed to breed.
I just hate the American voice actors, they REALLY SUCK. Except for Slayers, of course, which has *quality* VA's. Plus, Lina's Japanese voice is whiney, and it makes her sound weak, whereas the American actor sounds like a "stronger" voice.
