A hungry pig will go through a human body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

Not-So-Moldy Oldies

I hate everything on the radio now. Everything. Hence my current obsession with all things '70s and '80s. Any old tracks you'd care to recommend for others to discover (or re-discover)?

The Pretenders, "Brass In Pocket" - Great track. Buy the album. Best debut in rock history.

Blondie, "One Way Or Another" - My favorite track from Parallel Lines, one of the best albums of all time. Swingy and funky.

A Flock Of Seagulls, "I Ran (So Far Away)" - Egads! Heavenly '80s cheese. Ridiculously catchy.

Bryan Adams, "Run To You" - Heh. Even cheesier than the above. But just as catchy.

The Eagles, "Hotel California" - You've likely heard it a billion times by now, but it doesn't matter. Still a great track.

The entire The Very Best of War dual CD set. I'm listening to it right at this moment.

/me hasn't bought a brand new current pop CD since, well, ever.

On second, thought, I did buy Outkast once, but I believe that's the first and only time.

I also bought OutKast. Stankonia, 2001. Sold it soon after. I only liked a few tracks, but they were brilliant.

Exact same CD I bought. Yeah, it really does have a few good songs on it, but I haven't listened to it in ages.

Either I get CDs for presents, buy them used, or buy the older music on new CDs. Yea for not spreading capitalism.

Amen, fellow CD buyer. Support the poor starving artists!

The last CD I bought was....actually, 3 CDs: reissues of Parallel Lines, Eat to the Beat, and Blondie, all by Blondie. 24-bit digitally remastered heaven. :D

adam ant - prince charming
aha - take on me
black - wonderful life
billy idol - white wedding
double - captain of her heart
jefferson airplane - white rabbit
joy division - love will tear us apart
kiss - i was made for loving you
nena - 99 red balloons
night ranger - sister christian
prince - purple rain
spread eagle - switchblade serenade
toto - africa

think that's most of the cheesey 80s pop I have? There's some good modern music, like goldfrapp or lemon jelly or something? Isn't that worth looking for? Isn't that worth...dying for?

I hate that nena song although I <3 the 80's :-!

Get -

Paul King - Love and Pride, it's little known but it's classic 80's cheese like I Ran. Even better 'cause the video had breakdancing little kids.
Bananarama - Cruel Summer
All DEVO songs. Fuck yeah bitch, Whip It is their best known, but it's hardly their best. Their version of Satisfaction >>>> the original. Omg gotta listen to devo this very moment.

Buy local, direct from the artist. Big cities have pretty decent scenes and at most shows they sell their own cd's. Some of the best Milwaukee artists I have cd's from are Paul Cebar and also Greg Koch and the Tone Controls. Chicago has an incredible scene with lots of great industrial acts.

I love some of Boston's stuff:

Peace of Mind
More than A Feeling
I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore
Foreplay/Long Time
Smokin'
...

Come to think of it, basically their Greatest Hits album is really good stuff.

Styx has some stuff I like, too:

Come Sail Away
Pieces of Eight
Blue Collar Man

I'd also recommend:

Eyes Without a Face - Billy Idol
Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
She Bop - Cyndi Lauper

This is just a smattering of older music I like, but it might give people something to start with.
Literacy is overated.

interesting how most people posts 80s music of what most people would consider 80s music.

def leppard and skid row, motley crew and guns and roses were in the 80s and yet meh.

EDIT: i agree with iohkus. even though the eagles pwn.

Alive and Kicking - Simple Minds, the only decent song they did and what a cracker it is.

Anything by The Who, Meatloaf and Bob Seger.
