Subhuman wrote: Then I guess I'm stupid, as well as gay. Logic check: In what universe would it make sense to suddenly decide to "go gay", be bullied and harassed by closed-minded fucktards, be shunned by friends and family alike, and put up with it for the rest of your life? Not this one. All the "sociological influences" in the world can't turn someone gay: you either are or you aren't, and yes, you're born that way.

The reason so many people think homosexuality is part of nurture rather than nature is that the majority of gays admit that they are such in their teens, or just after. Puberty, people. Straight guys don't really notice girls until adolescence; likewise, gay guys don't really notice guys (in that way) until adolescence. They don't just "choose" to be gay. That's ludicrous.
Apperantly you need a sociology class, but regardless, Neon Dingo is right to an extent that there are probably a variety of sociological circumstances that could cause it. Simply saying someone is "born gay" in some circumstances is incorrect as alot of gays have admitted they chose to be gay (I forget the exact percent, but it was more then half). I have also dealt with circumstances where someone was gay and then chose to be straight again. There is studies that show that the amount of testosterone in the womb help influence sexual preferance, however, ruling out sociology and pyschology is just as foolish as ruling out biology.

And you Sir, owe me the price of having my computer chair re-upholstered as your comments did cause such mirth that one has emptied one's bladder while seated at one's PC!

You are a cad and a bounder, Sir!

Well, I think this topic is going down the toilet. Should we put it out of it's misery?

Gays, furries and whatnots are the meaning of life.

How can we possibly kill this thread after so much deep and thoughtful soulsearching has been inspired by this topic?

I say let the thread life and continue it's path of discussion.

This isn't a discussion, it is idle chatting. Why not do it on IRC, it doesn't need to be recorded for posterity?

You're talking to a fucking geopolitical analyst, here. Even though he's only fifteen, he knows more than anybody else on this board.
1. Doesn't matter. He's still wrong.

2. Yeah. I bet.

And to those who think sociological factors can influence whether you can turn gay, ponder the story of that boy who was raised from birth as a girl, a bizarre experiment to determine whether nature or nurture determines someone's sexual preference. (It was in a book I saw recently - not sure of the title or the name of the boy. Either way, he still turned out straight.)

I'll have to look up which book it was. Crazy story.

That's like saying that because someone in one small village in Russia once ate his father all Russians are fraternical cannibals

The nature vs. nurture debate is incredibly complex and the statement "nurture has nothing to do with it" is kind of stupid. If it were that easy, don't you think we'd all have figured it out already?

Was he told to have intercourse with men at a certain point? Was he told that he was a boy instead of a girl? Etc. Etc. Things of that sort? Did he know everything? If he did not know everything, and was told to like men, and still was straight, then that would be something to talk about. But if he knew that he was a man down there, and that men were meant to fuck women, then it's a pointless experiment.

What about "Tom-girls"?

The kid did indeed find out he was once male. He ended up getting a sex change back to a male again, or something similar like that.

hey what's that over there!
