The Why FOBOS Sucks FAQ

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[ -> Editorial]</strong>

<html><body><P>Yeah, I’m tired of all the <B>Fallout:BOS</B> nonsense, too, but this one is for you newcomers who don’t fully understand why the game is hated so much around here. <B>Dark Underlord</B> put together an in-depth <A HREF=http://fmf.knightcommand.net/index.php? ... obos#part1 target=_blank>FAQ</A> type deal explaining everything you need to know. Here’s a taste:</P><blockquote><em>The first signs of things going wrong was with the <A HREF=http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/ne ... 90,00.html target=_blank>news release by Interplay</A> on March 12th this year (2003). While it said that this game was based on the Fallout world of the PC, it unfortunately seemed to be changing a few things already. Wait... Did I say March 12th, 2003? I'm sorry, that's wrong. What I meant to say was: The first signs of things going wrong was with the leaked information about "Fallout Fantasy" that we heard about on April 11th, 2002. But of course, that's all old news now. If you like, you can <A HREF=http://www.knightcommand.net/fmf/forum/ ... .php?t=348 target=_blank>take the history lesson</A> and read all about the first whisperings of the title that was to become Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Once you're done reading, come back and we'll go through what's wrong with FO:BOS, point by point.</em></blockquote><P>There’s so much good stuff to read, like numerous examples of them breaking canon, emails with Chuck Cuevas, an Interplay stock history, and more. So <A HREF=http://fmf.knightcommand.net/index.php? ... obos#part1 target=_blank>check this one out</A>.</P><P>Spotted in the <A HREF=/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7042 target=_blank>DAC forums</A>.</P></body></html>

Heheh. There are some pretty good arguments there. Nice job DU.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

However, as in Fallout 1, we find more evidence that yet again, the Brotherhood of Steel need the PC:

Matthew, Mysterious BoS Member - The Brotherhood of Steel is not the power that we once were. We believed ourselves to be the sole source of technology left to mankind. Secure in this belief we have let our order decline over the years. Now we don't have the resources at our disposal to deal with the Enclave. We need your help.
ahh.. it was in FO 2 not FO1

That doesn't mean that the following quote was in Fallout 1. That just means that in Fallout 2, just like in Fallout 1, the BOS needed the help of the PC. Learn English, please.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Good job, Underlord. That should shut most people up. ;)

One of the most glaring facts about the Californian BOS was that they appeared to have maintained excellent moral. No stories of attempted suicides, no depression, nothing.

It would have been interesting to have seen shades of 28 Days Later's military in the Brotherhood.

Even FOT wasn't as bad as this - with a little effort it could be changed to fit the Fallout canon. After all, the FOT BoS was a renegade offshoot of BOS, separated from the main one for 40 years. But the FOBOS one is even more different from the original than the FOT one..

Wasn't there a faction of the BoS that broke off and took off?

My only criticism is that it's a bit lengthy, but other than that, nice job with it.

That's why it's sectioned off into smaller pieces like any other "lengthy" piece of text.

Excellent work, DU. I found it to be a good read. Saaaay, wanna do my 10 page essay that I'm supposed to be doing right now?

I say we ban Ozrat so he can get his work done. Plus, I won't have to listen to his BS anymore.

Here's the short version: FOBOS SUX

How about we do a trade? I do your 10 page essay and you can do the 50 page business plan my department wants completed and printed by Friday.

Incidentally, there are a few things in there I prolly should fix up. #24 (I think it's #24 anyway) about the Ripper, The Plasma Saw is apparently an upmarket version of the Ripper and the Ripper is actually in FOBOS as a melee weapon.

It's also missing magic Ghouls.

It's perfect. Whenever the idiots rally against us regarding FOBOS, we'll show em' that. Good job.
Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
