I guess it has to do with my bigotry and hatred against Sony or something, but stop asking so many questions - It's my thread and my topic and stuff, I just don't like Minidiscs so I won't buy an MDplayer.

Ok, because you really want to know, I'll tell you - minidiscs are too much of a hassle. I mean, you have to do some weird shit to record music on them (at least according to minidisc.org) *faster* than the song really plays. I mean, if I want to fill my disc with new tracks in the morning, I really don't want to wake up an hour earlier just to get my md recorded. And secondly, most of them don't support audio from computers directly (ie mp3s), but you have to get an MD recorder!

Don't buy an iPod, b/c apparantly - their batteries die in 18 months and you have to pay around $100-200 for a new one (i.e. - about half the price of a brand new iPod)...

Ya that's why I recommended an MD that supports MP3s. And they have USB instead of that optical bullshit of the old MDs

All the problems you have mentioned about the MD players are fixed in the new models.

I didn't like MD's too, but I have one of the newer models and I am really enjoying it. You use a USB cabel and a program to transfer songs (I transfer mp3's mostly). My MD supports transfer of up to speed of 32, meaning I can "record" a 32 minute song in one minute. Also, with LP4 you get 320 minutes on a disc.

You can get a cheap base model Sony MD player for like 129 dollars. They aren't that bad, but the software that sony makes you use, Soundstage or some bullshit, sucks copious amounts of ass. Plus the music has to be converted to the ATRAC3 format before it's put onto the MD, and then, you can only "check out"a song up to three times from the software, because of their nice "bend you over and fuck you in the ass" copyright bullshit.

CD-RW discs? No. It uses optical technology, not magnetic, to store data, so you cannot use it in a similar fashion to a floppy or hard drive. The way its designed prevents its use in that way.

What the hell are you talking about? The very purpose of a REWRITABLE disc is to be written upon, then erased, and then re-written upon.

Note that as you go down the page, you get less features but the thing cost less.

I have the MZNF10 (The one that costs 279$) and it's great.

The cheapest MD I can see is the MZNE410KIT Costs 99.95$ and has pretty much the same features which makes you wonder why there is a 200$ differntial.

I guess it's bulkier, more energy consuming and has worse sound quality. But it seems this one understands mp3-files and the converting software isn't much of a problem if it plugs into a normal PC, you can always warez it or something.

A minidisk only has 200 megs of storage space for mp3s. So, out of most mp3 players, you can get more songs stored than in a md player. However all you'd really need to do would be to carry around multiple disks?

I still prefer mp3, because it's fancier plx.

I think you are a little confused.

A single minidisc has 80 minuets of free space for music, regardless of format. What happens is when you tranfer an mp3 to your md it actually records the mp3 into the md format. What this means is that there is no thing as format when talking about md's, there's just an amount of minutes of music.

Furthermore, you can record LP2 or LP4, which means you can get more then the 80 minutes.

When recording in LP2 you get 160 minutes of music.

When recording in LP4 you get 320 minutes of music.

The quality is supposed to be worse in LP4, but from my exprience you can not feel any difference.

I'm strongly leaning towards the MD right now, mainly because of the price tag.

EDIT: just noticed that sonystyle-USA's "free shipping for all portable audio!" only works within those (surprise surprise) 48 states, so no goody for me.

I checked the shop.sonystyle-europe.com but the cheapest MD player they had costs 205 $/ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬ ! Any suggestions?
