New books worth reading
New books worth reading
I've gone to my local bookstore since nothing else seemed interesting.
I haven't seen many interesting books, but I sure as hell saw some really cliched and crappy looking books.
Have any of you read any good books (new, preferably) that might be worth a read?
P.S: No game-to-book things please thank you

most of the stuff by tad williams is good.
dan simmons stuff is also good.
both newer writers
i also liked a book called the fortress of eternity. its a fantasy novel but it has a freshing change from normal fantasy novels in that there isnt an all powerful hero going on a mythic quest.
its a guy, a hooker, and a barbarian going to do a job for a man. it has its mythic quest properties as in the final purpose is to kill a god but the book is harsh and well written, not all pretty and dainty like most fantasy novels are written.
EDIT: if you want a good history book to read try reading the rise and fall of the third reich if you havent already

get the philip k. dick collection of short stories. it has a shitload of great works and has the stories that were the basis for screamers, total recall, and that new movie with ben affleck, paycheck.

No, don't read that. I did and now I'm a semi-paraniod right-wing pro-gun watching-everything-the-US-gov't-does kinda guy. Oh wait. Being mindful of the government is a good thing, right?George Orwell, 1984. I checked it out on a whim and it's impossible to put down.
BTW (in all seriousness), It's a great book.

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan...only if you like fantasy and have a lot of patience (10 books over 600 pages and counting=)).
"Science fiction wiggers" is my new favorite phrase.

Books I have read the last few weeks and found fascinating:
-"The Velvet Claw" by David McDonald, is a description of all the carnivores with reference to evolution and stuff, very interesting.
-"Rediscovering Opals in Australia" by Stephen Aracic, not very technical but very funny and interesting book about one of the most beautiful gemstones. It teaches how to look for them too (might be interesting for Ozites).
-"The October Horse" by Cohleen McCullough, the last book on the Roman Republic series, fascinating! I recomend the complete series.
"The Alien Years" by Robert Silverberg, maybe not his best piece but still very good, highly recommended by yours truly.
