This whole "movies that're just fun are a-ok!" thing annoys me.atoga wrote:I fully realize that. Even so, the two still make for shitty, boring movies. The other gripe is, they take themselves too seriously.Subhuman wrote:I think you're taking both Snatch and Ocean's Eleven too seriously. Both are larks, one better than the other on the Lark Scale (10 being a pure unfettered joy to watch, 1 being unworthy of any sort of attention, positive or negative).
I don't want to have to ponder for hours over a movie like I did over Strangelove, or stare blankly at the screen for 30 minutes, awe-struck like I did after watching Requiem for a Dream, or want to view a scene 20 times over like I did the final scene of Long Good Friday, but there's a difference between fun'n'easy viewing and just plain stupidity.
Snatch is fun, easy viewing.
Ocean's Eleven is just plain stupidity. Plus it has Julia Roberts. Barf-head. Is it fun? Yeah, maybe, if I had a huge hole in my head where the logic lobe of the brain used to be, but sad thing is, I don't. That movie was bad. Not mindbogglingly bad like Dreamcatcher or Matrix 2, but baaaaad.
Plus atoga is right, they take themselves too seriously.
PS: The Rocky Horror Picture show is one of those cult-classics. It's a good film, I suppose, but I didn't like it too much myself.
