Guys remember this isn't the Wasteland version of Ask Hammer, ok. Keep it clean. The best way to do that is to keep Hammer occupied with questions he can best answer like stuff related to guns.

me and kash were having a wonderful discussion about religion without swearing at each other and each post was over one paragraph so how in the fuck is that spamming?Jimmyjay86 wrote:If you fuckers quit spamming every topic with crap then I won't lock them....Kashluk wrote:Well there ain't many other places to talk about other things since you've locked every third topic tonight.

eh?
i was swearing in general but not at kash. just read it, nothing is directly related to him other than the snide remark about his brain function question and im sure he didnt take it as a huge insult.
its not like every other post was "I R L33T R3L1G10N SUXX0RS" plus ive noticed posts are disappearing like cake at a fat kids birthday party.
need some ritalin?

Anyways, I'll try to scramble what's left after this ethnic cleansing and return to the topic:
Hammer, what would you think of a Henry Lever Action .22 rifle as a beginner's gun? I've fallen in love with it, because of it's cheap, reliable, not that harsh on newbies and oh, the ammo's cheap too.
I can get Henry .22magnum from Finland for 470 € or the 22. LR version for 440. Magnum's got a 11 rnd magazine & the LR's got 15 rnd magazine. The ammo price is from 4,50€ to 8,00 € per 100 rnd box.

gun related:
dear hammer,
i've been shooting rifles a lot lately and can't maintain a proper sight picture since my left eye is so weak. i've been told to invest in a good red dot sight and can't seem to find a decent one for a good price. i've heard aimpoint makes a great one but don't think putting a sight that is worth more than the rifle it's going on is a good idea. i looked at the bushnell holosight and the russian kobra but want to know what would the most rugged sight for under 250$. i think the bushnell may be a good idea since it is fully enclosed but may not be as sturdy as the kobra. the rifle this is going on is an amd-65 with a forward mount.

Obviously a .30Cal (7.62mm) bullet will do more damage then a .223 (5.56mm) due to it's larger size. Unfortunatly in the military we're not allowed to use ammo that's actually good at killing people, essentially hunting ammunition. Now some would argue that it'd be crappy against targets in body armor, this is true, however how many of our modern day foes have been wearing body armor? What packs more stopping power, a 5.56 round or a 7.62 round?
Pump a .30Cal CoreLokt round in to a skinny and you're liable to blow him in two.
I'd have to ask my wife, she cleans my cloths.how do you wash bloodstains out?

A Jeep, I have a Rubicon and love it.also, what would be the best all-round car to drive?
A .22 is always a good beginners rifle, bolt action & lever action are also the best choices of operation for a beginner's rifle. Just don't think about how comfortable that Henry's is when you pick up a larger caliber weapon.Hammer, what would you think of a Henry Lever Action .22 rifle as a beginner's gun? My first rifle was a .22, no idea who made it but it was a small bolt action with a teenee tiny 10 round magazine. I still have it hanging up, you always remember you're "first rifle" and almost come to "love" it. I do anyway....
Speaking of cheap ammo, in the U.S. I can pick up a 500 round "brick" of .22 ammo for like $8, how much money is it where you are from? Cheaper or relativly the same?
Kobra all the way, the Bushnell is a good holosight just very fragile. The Kobra, on the other hand is essentially a holosight made for the rigors of military combat. AIMPOINT is good too but like you said they're up there in the $500 range, hell the one I bought for my M4 cost me $450, top of the line military version.i've been shooting rifles a lot lately and can't maintain a proper sight picture since my left eye is so weak. i've been told to invest in a good red dot sight and can't seem to find a decent one for a good price. i've heard aimpoint makes a great one but don't think putting a sight that is worth more than the rifle it's going on is a good idea. i looked at the bushnell holosight and the russian kobra but want to know what would the most rugged sight for under 250$. i think the bushnell may be a good idea since it is fully enclosed but may not be as sturdy as the kobra. the rifle this is going on is an amd-65 with a forward mount.
Also, does your AMD have the scope mount brackets on the back of the reciever? I highly recommend putting the holosight there, as I have come to learn the closer to your the holosight is the better.
Hehe, yeah... Well, as you know, I'm not really the type of a guy that is awfully fond of guns, but I thought getting some experience before doing the army would be nicer than be given a 7.62 assault rifle and left to wonder how it's supposed to be operatedHammer wrote:A .22 is always a good beginners rifle, bolt action & lever action are also the best choices of operation for a beginner's rifle. I checked a domestic online catalog and it says 100 rnd box of 22.LR is available for 4,50 € ie. 5,80 $ ...Speaking of cheap ammo, in the U.S. I can pick up a 500 round "brick" of .22 ammo for like $8, how much money is it where you are from? Cheaper or relativly the same?
So... I wouldn't call it cheap when compared to US prices but it's cheap compared to bigger calibers. The hell, Sako 9,3x62 Elk hunting Ammo can cost as much as 260,00 € ie. 326,70 $ per 100 rounds.

Hammer, I thought the United States didn't sing that treaty or whatever that dictates what kind of ammunition we use in war, we just play along because we're such good sports and hand the enemy their ass anyway. Wouldn't that mean we could use whatever we wanted for our infantry. hollotips and all that fun stuff. Why, we could give them shotguns and shells loaded with gravel, couldn't we?
George Bush lowered taxes so the Jews could kill Michael Moore.

It seems like there's always some kind of wonder-round being talked about, and it's all bullshit. The blended-metal, super death-ray round is no different. RBCD has failed to perform well in government tests and the company behind it has not allowed the round to be independently tested. Basically, it's the company's word that this round is so wonderful, backed up by pictures of shot-up beef and lame excuses as to why it can't measure up in tests conducted with ballistic gel. Frankly, I'd rather use M193, as that at least has some independent testing to verify the fragmentation.trythebill wrote:shotguns with gravel may be good and all but i want that round that killed the guy with an ass shot. blended metals and all that jazz.
Literacy is overated.
Hey Hammer, do you think the United States should pull out of NATO (not formally though) and ditch the NATO-standard 5.56mm round?
Also, what do you think about the decision that was made a few years ago (1999 I believe) to replace all of the Army's small arms ammunition with a Tungsten-tin composite instead of what was originally Lead cores to make the bullets more "environmentally-friendly" by 2005? I heard (though I'm no firearms expert) that the Tungsten is much more abrasive shortening the 'barrel life' of the rifle, besides being almost 15X more expensive than Lead ammo and we have to import most of our Tungsten from China (Clinton-sellout). I was hoping this experiment was going to be canned but I haven't heard much about it since. I heard that this ammunition was probably going to be used for training ranges, but activists pushed for it to replace the former ammunition entirely.

I think what you're referring to is the Hague Convention during WWI, which outlawed poison gas and "Dum Dum" expanding bullets for use in 'civilized warfare'. The United States was not a signatory of that treaty but have historically conformed to it. You can tell the results were achieved by how 'civilized' World War II was [sarcasm]airsoft guy wrote:Hammer, I thought the United States didn't sing that treaty or whatever that dictates what kind of ammunition we use in war, we just play along because we're such good sports and hand the enemy their ass anyway.
