You know what I hate? People generalising. I'm a Christian. But I'm also a Tarantino movie fan. I have 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction' on DVD. I also have 'Natural Born Killers' on Video, I recorded 'Dusk 'till Dawn' of the TV and I'm getting 'True Romance' for Christmas.
Just because one Christian says something doesn't mean we ALL agree, in fact I think you'll find that the church is divided on hundreds of issues. Hence there being a Catholic, Protestant, Methodist, Quaker and Orthadox churches.
Globalism? You stupid, stupid fool. If everyone is disagreeing on issues then they are hardly going to want to work together. More importantly each religion worships a different god or deity. Allah, God, Buddha, Jehovah, Vishnu, Satan. So what should they worship? The world? Fuck that... I worship my god and the U.N 1948 human rights act and U.S.A constitution protect my rights.

calm down tool. no one said you cant worship your imaginary friend that tells you to worship him and give him anal praise.Apocalypse 2077 wrote:Fuck that... I worship my god and the U.N 1948 human rights act and U.S.A constitution protect my rights.
the only thing that pisses me off is when governmental systems impose religion on people. religion and state should be seperated. shit i dont think religion should even exist because all it causes is bullshit problems over useless ideals.

Reading the last two pages of this thread stands to support my thesis that the human race, as a whole, needs to be annihilated.
That said, who gives a flying fuck about religion anyway? Do whatever you feel like doing, and fuck everybody else. All this "Ban religion" and "I hate Christianity because of what some Christians do" is pure, unfiltered bullshit. Nobody gives a shit what you believe in, and if they do, they're assholes who need to be repeatedly shot in the face. Immediately.

The only reason why I believe that there is some deity is because I don't know how creation could have.. uh... come out of nowhere. Something had to have created all of this. The exact beginning of all time must have been... unnatural?
I think I may be agnostic, but that's another story.

Endure. In enduring, grow strong.
I don't care if you're christian or w/e, but I simply don't understand why would the all powerful antity that created the world (if there is any) be God as we know it? Why not the 350 greek, or roman, or egyptian gods? Or any african tribe's? Or Vishnu with his 8 arms in the earth's center?
Religion is so flawed and unfair, why would humans have souls and a heaven and not other animals? Humans aren't animals? Fuck that. We are evolved animals, that's it, we don't have more gods than wolves or rats.
And if God did exists he must have died giving birth to humanity.
And btw Kash, the flat earth wasn't the scientist's belief, it was common knowledge, when science started probing the subject, religion shut the scientist's mouth, because Jerusalem was "the center of the world", and admitting the earth isn't flat was admitting they are wrong.
And you can see atoms... all the things you see are atoms all together. We can weight atoms and control them. You know what a nuke is?

No, there is a scientific explanation of how matter/energy spontaneously came into existence. And Stephen Hawking calculated the exact beginning of time.Valdis wrote:The only reason why I believe that there is some deity is because I don't know how creation could have.. uh... come out of nowhere. About the flat earth, the Greeks all knew that the earth was round, that it orbited the sun, and that the moon orbited the earth. This was about 3000 years before the Christian church finally admitted it.
Earth being flat was a scientific fact back then. By others than just the Europeans, sauron. The Chinese and Mayas for example thought Earth was flat, even though they had developed astronomy long before Europeans.
This "scientifical knowledge" was the basis for their beliefs and religions.
And no, you can't see a single atom flying in the air. Nor can you see causality, which we still believe exists. A product of our brain, like God? Who knows...
---
Oh and Stephen Hawking... Well his theories are under very tough preasure right now and even the non/anti-religious circles are doubting his theories. The beginning of the universe is still considered pretty much a mystery. There are only acceptable theories, but no certain truth.

Chinese didn't think the earth was flat, and they tried going around it (archelogist found chinese boats in the carebeans). So did the Vikings.
Religion destroyed all the scientific knowledge after the Roman Empire was destroyed.
Just as an example, I was reading a book the other day, and in 250 BC, Erathotenes (or something like that), a greek(not geek) had developped the formulae to calculate the distance between the earth's nucleus (or w/e you call that in english) and the surface. The religions just buried all the scientific knowledge because it was in contradiction with their "truth".
I don't blame people for believing in God, just as I don't blame anyone for their ignorance or stupidity, just as long as they don't get in my way.

The viking didn't think the Earth was round... They were just experiencing it's limits ie. to see where "the edge" is and how far you're able to go by boat.
And did the Chinese think the Earth was round? I've seen ancient chinese maps of the world and it was a circle alright, but flat nevertheless, China being in middle of it and all those "lesser areas" around it.
Plus, I couldn't find anything from the net indicating that Chinese thought the Earth to be round.
Dark Ages were destructive, I agree with that. But as we've seen, prosperity goes up - then goes down - then goes up again. Dark Ages was a dark period, pretty much like ice age, world wars, the great depression, cold war or anything you could come up with.
And you can't say the Roman/Greek society was that great... Less than 0,1% were able to come up with those ideas of physics, mathematics, philosophy etc. while the rest of the people were working their asses off to feed those fat bastards. So scientific knowledge sure has it's price.

Eratosthenes, I believe. He calculated the distance around the world to within a thousand kilometers or so.s4ur0n27 wrote:Just as an example, I was reading a book the other day, and in 250 BC, Erathotenes (or something like that), a greek(not geek) had developped the formulae to calculate the distance between the earth's nucleus (or w/e you call that in english) and the surface. As far as religion hampering scientific progress, the Bible speaks of a day when the sun went backwards, so a heliocentric solar system would defy that. Go figure.

I've seen maps of the earth made last year, and guess what? They were flat. And there's no obscurity whether the Greeks knew or not, for instance how could Atlas have carried the globe on his shoulders if they all thought the earth was flat? The Greeks pretty much invented modern Astronomy, and with the help of mathematics, they advanced the subject quite well before the fall of their civilization.Kashluk wrote:And did the Chinese think the Earth was round? The Church's oppression is a big reason as to why the Dark Ages lasted for almost 2000 years.Kashluk wrote:Dark Ages were destructive, I agree with that. Compared to the Christian reign in Europe for the next 2000 years, I can say that Roman/Greek society was great. I don't know about that .1% you mention for the Greeks, but I can guarantee that whatever it was for them, the number was way lower (zero) in Europe. Each time someone tried to come up with a new theory or idea, they are tortured, made to recant, and burned.Kashluk wrote:And you can't say the Roman/Greek society was that great... Slave, he calculated the distance between the middle of the earth and it's surface, too, which is 6731 km. He had 6730.
And about the Chinese, I read a chinese book written in 1200 AC, and I read in there they believed the earth wasn't flat.
Maybe I was wrong on the Vikings, but I think I remember a history teacher saying they knew at some point the earth wasn't flat.
And Kash, about the dark ages, that was my point, the religions caused it, and they are causing another just now.
