Have you ever read a book or watched a movie that at first invoked disgust and hatred(or something similar to a strong disliking of the movie, game or book), but at second viewing/reading/playing was actually enjoyable?
I felt that way with some of Lovecraft's works. I read the tale "The WHisperer in Darkness" made me love the author's works.

Haven't read Lovercraft's stuff since high school. I thought most of it was bizarre in a victorian way.
As far as films go, "Eye of the Beholder" seemed pretty odd. Just about everyone in the theater hated it but I think I'd like to see it again. Maybe it is more style than substance but it had something to keep me thinking about it after all this time.
A book I read earlier this year, "Dhalgren" by Samuel Delany was also a difficult read. It is a mammoth novel and his literary style is advanced. It was a chore to read but after reading some his short fiction I am almost pushed to give it another try.
