Too much Xmas and it's only Dec. 4th
First off...'tripe'? Lets see how many more times different people are going to say tripe.
Second off...you guys aren't to swift when it comes to prioritizing your negativity. This simple idea is that ultimately, the holidays do make people feel good, and generally makes everyone nicer to eachother. Sure there are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule, like the folks here on DaC, but yes, people are nicer around the holidays.
You see, if you threw a party and no one knew about it, who would come? Christmas is a globally recognized 'party', so the the behaviour of people changes more or less, globally, and with that, as I said many times before, you bring to Christmas what you will. I'm not religious, yet I love it because of the atmosphere, the lights and other decorations, the music...it just brings back nice memories and is overall a good feeling. When you lose important people in your life, there is a strange connection as well. Though you're sad they're not around, you're also happy that you have memories of spending time with those people, and that you have others you should be caring about. Sure, care about them all year long, but really, people want to define this one time a year when its almost a given that you're going to be 'extra special'.
Notice I didn't mention gifts? Those are just easy ways to remind people you're thinking of them. Personally, now that I'm older, I enjoy giving gifts more than receiving. I feel great when I can be creative and surprise someone with a killer gift. It isn't the gift as much as the thought behind it. I got beer steins one Christmas, and though I smiled and said thank you, it also felt, "boy, you really gave this a lot of thought about me and what to give". Point is she shouldn't have given me anything, rather than a token gift as dictated by the holiday. Giving gifts are more than just spending money, its about taking the time to think of the person you're getting the gift for, and giving them something special, from you to them. Overall though, if you can't give gifts, expensive or not, give them a card, or make something with noodles and glue, just make that person know you think of them, but gifts as you see them are not as important as the good feelings to loved ones, especially when you can lose them just as easily. Appreciate they are in your life and celebrate Christmas for them and about them at the very least.
You are focusing too much on what the rest of the world is doing and not enough about what you do for yourself. Sure they start the holidays a tad early for some people, but who cares...how can this POSSIBLY bother you, with more important things in life to worry about than a few extra weeks of Christmas each year.
Merry Christmas

What's wrong with saying tripe? Exitium's usage was perfectly correct. Tripe is often used in polite company as a way of saying something's crap.EvoG wrote:First off...'tripe'? Lets see how many more times different people are going to say tripe.
Personally I've got nothing against people celebrating xmas as long as they don't expect me to join in, and that they keep it to celebrating xmas and not Decembermas which is what it's turning into.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Nothing's wrong with tripe...its the lemmings who use it in consecutive posts, that I'm referring to. Surely you don't think saying 'tripe' is common? Maybe in the UK, but otherwise, its a rather obscure reference to 'criz-ap', and even my European friends don't use the phrase, let alone ANYONE in the US. In loose conversation people normally say shit or crap, for example.
Then again, I was just being DaC-ish, and really don't care about that tripe to be honest, just fun'in around.
Cheers and Merry Christmas.

Actually, I originally wanted to say bullshit, but tripe was easier to type.EvoG wrote:First off...'tripe'? Lets see how many more times different people are going to say tripe.
We'll talk about this in 2015 when the new world government starts Christmas sales in June. :shock:EvoG wrote:how can this POSSIBLY bother you, with more important things in life to worry about than a few extra weeks of Christmas each year.

I always look forward to christmas, I guess I'm not going out of my way to dislike something because the majority like it too, or vice versailles or something.
Merry Xristmas.

About three weeks ago I was making one of my routine pilgrimages to yea aulde Wal*Mart Super Center with my mother and was talking to her about this Special Edition Reservoir Dogs DVD I was thinking of buying. She offered that perhaps I should just ask for it for Christmas so I replied that I didn't celebrate Christmas. She then inquired as to why, so I stated merely that I wasn't a Christian, I wasn't a Catholic. Quite shocked she asked, "When did this happen?". So I said "... four- five years? I don't really remember..."
Later that evening, my mother and me were eating dinner with my sister and she made some snide comment to my sister about how I no longer have any faith.
Christmas is so much fun.

The best and worst things about Christmas, IMHO:
Best: the outdoor lighting displays can be pretty.
Worst: Going into any store during December.
But I do have my Festivus pole up again this year, for the third straight year. You know, "Festivus, the festival for the rest of us!" Just a simple aluminum pole, takes about 2 minutes to put up.

i just completely flat out ignore x-mas, my parents go ape shit over it though... i'm too fucking poor to buy presents anyways so no loss and i end up getting socks, boxers or a gap sweater i never fucking touch and end up using to wax my boots. omg teh angst
only reason i'd get into it is for a girl, and only if it meant i was getting laid, then i'd be all over x-mas.
