Almost half of new Iraq army quits
I don't know... almost funny

Apparently they don't like the pay, their US commanders, the conditions, and terms.
How they could be treated worse than when under Sadam's rule I don't know... maybe they would have quit back then too if Sadam didn't go after their families when they deserted.

This is not good. What, are we going to just up and leave, or something?CNN Article wrote:The discussions followed a letter two senators sent President Bush about the "need to speed up the process by which Iraqis assume greater responsibility" for security as the coalition prepares to cede power back to Iraqis in July.

I believe what he's referring to is the formal transfer of (most) power from the Coalition to whatever the Iraqi-elected government would be. US forces would most likely guard key locations and perform anti-insurgent operations, while Iraiq police (and Iraqi Army) handle the civilian locations, police work, and guarding schools and bridges and such. I seriously doubt the United States is leaving anytime soon, especially after viewing the upcoming deployments to Iraq. They will be reducing the number of forces though because their operations will be scaled back anyway. The US will be staying in Iraq at least for another decade (and beyond, since it'll probably contain their major base in the region in the future), both to react to any new developments, carry out operations, and to re-assure the Iraqis that they aren't going to be abandoned as they were after the first Gulf War.MurPHy wrote:This is not good. I do have to say that the Iraqis have been stepping up in a big way, and they deserve alot of credit. Even with threats to their lives/family, Iraqi police are enlisting in large numbers. Unfortunately the media doesn't like reporting the good things that are going on over there; instead they rather tally a body count. Yesterday (or the day before, I forgot) there was a huge anti-terrorism demonstration in Iraq but the media made no mention of it as if it never occured.
I've said it once before, and I'll say it again. The media is rife with communists, leftists, and, in general, traitors. And when I mean traitors, I mean it in a Benedict Arnold kind of way.Menno wrote:I do have to say that the Iraqis have been stepping up in a big way, and they deserve alot of credit. because anyone who voluntary categorizes themselves based on a multitude of political values held by others that they may not even completely understand or accept is a goddamn moron.Franz_Schubert wrote:How can you possibly justify that statement?
also, a large part of the reason why the new iraqi recruits are quitting is due to the fact that the way the U.S. military runs things is so drastically different than the way arabs in general run their militaries.
there is a good essay called "why arabs lose wars" or something like that that will give you a good idea as to why these iraqis are quitting.

Since I'm not left or right-wing (The only opinion I totally agree with is mine -- fuck conformists) all I see is bullshit from both sides in the media.Franz_Schubert wrote:Rule of the universe: Liberals see only right-wing BS in the media, and conservatives see only left-wing BS in the media.

ahhaha good point. reminds me of when the french owned upper/lower canada and the british came and fucked them up with all their british rules.avenger69ie wrote:if france invaded the states and organised an american army which was run by french people in a french way of thinking, would american nationals quit?
also reminds me of the american revolution, when the americans allied with the french against the british and the french generals commanded US troops. well tried to anyways.
