They seem to have borrowed the Stargate theme. I wonder if they'll include it on the Sky Captain soundtrack as the "Stargate Overture".

I think it looks awesome...Mix of Crimson Skies and Tom Strong. The style is killer.

Also, this is more 30's than 50's, like Flash Gordon.

Jude Law is great to watch ( Gattaca, Enemy at the Gates, Talented Mr. Ripley, among others of course ), so thats bonus.

This is going to be fun fun.

Cheers

interesting, is that a p40 or p51 he's flying, the nose-art would suggest its a p40, but the outline in some of the scenes make it look liek a mustang. Film looks like a right laugh though :) good fun.

The stargate theme too eh? i've heard the aliens theme being used on a lot of different trailors for films, i doubt its the actual theme to the film, more of a riling theme to get you interested in what they are selling.
works for me heheh :)

Liked it. The concept of retro style stuff being cool seems to be picking up with the entertainment industry. Except for Interplay comand and control peeplez. :(

The last thing that I watched a flick that looked anything like this was Disney's "The Rocketeer" and by God that's a strech. I am only slighly reminded of "Mars Attacks" but I suppose it's only because of the perceived romantization of a 1950's genre.

The night we got to watch this trailer -an this is a totally unrelated note- they also showed the one for something called "The Ridik Chronicles". There is another fun flick to look forward to.

But isn't that Vin Diesel prick in it?

I like Vin Diesel, and interesting note about him : His a big gamer like the rest of us...alledgedly even GM'ing his own PnP games to this day.

Either way, yeah, Ridik Chronicles was very tight. He's been working on the world of Pitch Black to make it a bonified sci fi entity.

Good movies this summer, yay. :)

Interesting fact: Vin Diesel's such a fucking douche he allegedly has the name of his D&D character tattooed on his body.

The trailer looks pretty good, though these days you never really can tell. Still, I'll give it a shot.

It also looks a little like Iron Giant mabye?

I usually don't like Vin Diesal movies, but Pitch Black was good.

Well Kreegs, you should be proud of yourself for having gotten me intrigued enough to actually wait through the seemingly interminable download time. The data trickled through my modem, and I sat dutifully twiddling my thumbs.

I'm pencilling myself in to go see this. Hopefully it will do well enough at the box office to encourage more to follow in its wake. (Ming the Merciless, anyone?)

Still, I'm a bit reserved. Angelina Jolie isn't exactly a recipe for cinematic excellence, although I do think that Jude Law is one of the better actors out there. I'm not overly optimistic about how it's going to do at the box office, either. I was over at imdb.com earlier and while some people seem excited about it, there seem to be a lot of people that fail to "get" the concept of retro-sci fi, and I saw quite a few posts on the message board about "there's no way they would have had robots like that in the '30s", or how they thought the visuals looked cheesy. So, I guess we'll have to wait till next summer and see.

Cheers, for the heads-ups, Kreegs!

I don't bother much with the imdb forums, they're pretty...stupid? The top 250 list just seems to be over-rated movies or something: http://imdb.com/top_250_films

The information supplied is usually good though

I agree about Angelina Jolie. But on the other-hand, she's wearing an eye-patch and it has flying robots.

I've not seen everything Angelina Jolie has done (i.e. the Tomb Raider films) but I'm always mesmerised when she's on screen.

Retro Sci-Fi + Angelina Jolie + Ling Bai = winning formula, in my book.

As long as it's better than the mid 90's attempts to bring The Phantom and The Shadow to the big screen it should be okay.

Angelina Jolie doesn't seem to play any other roles besides "Oh I'm the sexy biatch, rape m3!"-stereotype. Well, maybe the Tomb Raider(s) were a bit different than that, but otherwise it seems she's stuck to that one role for good.

... I bet she'll loose it too, when her hair turns gray and her tits start swinging (even) low(er).

Well, there's a reason that I've never bothered to post on any of them until yesterday morning. Most of the discussions are by and for kids w/nothing more to say than "I like/hate/whatever X". Then there's the people who either pretend to work in the film industry ("in the industry we...") or do and think that the rest of the world will bow down and give them a free ration of suction.

Right now I'm thinking that Pyro is secretly entertaining thoughts of skull-fucking her...

That's your hormones talkin', youngster. :D

I suppose there's no accounting for taste, though. Sorry, my taste in women doesn't run toward busty puckerfish, so she's out on both counts in my books.
