The Advertisement That Makes Me Ashamed To Be a Gamer

Post by Menno »

Has anyone else seen the advertisement for Final Fantasy X-2? Uggh, it's so lame and wretched...and gay. For those who haven't seen it, it's basically the FF characters dancing and singing on a stage in front of an audience while fighting, to a fruity Eurovision-sounding musical track. If gamers weren't considered geeks before, well they definately will be considered that now.

Um, that's what the entire game is.
I've known about it for a damned long time, since my friends are all into "japanese pop culture". It's sad, isn't it?

To be honest, it beats the americanization I've begun to see all around here...

At least the pop culture will wear off very soon, like all other things that are "in" atm..

Just a matter of a few months, or a year or two, and it'll be über goth or chivalry or whatever the fuck else people suddenly come up with.

Pretty ironic though, since the japanese try to be everyone else.

bah...

I thought you were going to be talking about a FOBOS ad in this thread. So, does anybody know if one exists?

Yea, that commercial sucked... I don't know if the game is going to be anything like dx1, but if it is, then this commercial is completely sucko. Sadly though, I doubt that dx2 will be able to live upto the origionality or awsomeness of the first.

My least favorite gaming commercial is the one for Rainbow Six 3. I just want to punch that dude sitting on the couch wearing the headset. Like, shut up, you pathetic nerdmeister! The look on his girlfriend's face says it all.

Hmp. Enough of that. Any time that I get those "bad gamming commercial" pains, I like to find the good ones and watch them repeatedly.

The "Rachet & Clank" jackass-nerds series always cracks me up.

Red Storms "Splinter Cell" glows with it's aura of super-spy badassness.

Ads for both "SOCOM"s games rule for different reasons. The first game's "Fish in a barrel" tagline was both funny and evil. Then there is the new one "Think before you move" Is so cinematic that is a bit of a pity the game is nowhere near that realistic.

The commercials for the last "Bond" game with Q questioning the camera as to "Just exactly where is the rest of this vehicle?" and "I suppose that you can explain this?" was right on the money with the tradition of 007 films.

See? There's a cure for every evil out there. I just as soon roll my eyes at stupid/lame/gay commercials than dwell on them. Go find the gems.

You know, I very rarely see commercials for games on TV. Does that mean I'm watching the wrong kind of TV? D:

Uh, Atoga? Are you watching any commercial TV? I mean, lets just say that you don't watch the usual suspects: Network TV.

Let us also pretend that you don't watch the nerdvision specials: Sci-Fi network, Cartoon Network, Techvision, Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel.

So that means that you at least watch pop-culture stuff every now and then. Right? MTV? M2? ESPN & ESPN2? TNN? TBS? Anything?

Ok so you don't watch anything short of PBS or HBO. To my recent surprise, I rented some "movie event" DVD the other day and behold there just before my awaited piece of though destroying bliss, there was an ad for Vice City. I do also recall that on occasion, the powers that be deem it necessary to along with all the commercials for jeans and cellular service providers, we are getting game commercials on the Big Screen.

Maybe you are just blocking them out? Cuz I must admit the bulk of them are crap. So you are subconciously not paying attention to all of them and that's where you miss the entertaining ones.

It's really not that hard to avoid gaming commercials. There are three channels here (yeah, here here, you know where) that can be viewed anywhere inside the borders. Analogic network, though, it's supposed to be digitalized by the year 2007 -> more channels. Anyways, only one of these three channels is a commercial TV channel. The two are (partly) owned by the government and funded with this special fee they collect (if you have a TV, you'll have to pay this) & tax money.

AND it seems that this only commercial channel is busy showing shampoo and cornflake adverts, so there really aren't many related to gaming. If you start boycotting that channel, you won't see a single gaming commercial, no matter how much you watch TV.

I don't know what's worse: Japanese pop music or McDonald's. Both give me massive diarrhea, so it's hard to tell.

I guess that's be the case. I watch most of the stuff you mentioned, so I must be trippin'...

I was going to say that on terrestial British commercial TV (all of 3 channels) there's hardly any games commercials, but then I just turned the box on and caught the end of an ad for Project Gotham on the XBox, but it is nearly xmas. Otherwise we normally only see adverts from EA games.
