Neither do I. Worse I usually get is a dry throat, along with being a bit tired. Although when shitfaced I go to sleep soooooo quickly.

The last thing you want is increased blood flow to your brain, so avoid caffeine. Take advil/ibuprofene/morphine/etc.

Mr Carrot wrote:dehydration causes your brain to shrink giving you the really bad headache, it also makes your lips get all cracked and sore and your palms dry up and feel shite.

the sickness etc. is also caused by dehydration but is also a result of your body trying to get out as much of the alcohol as it can + it screws up your stomach lining.

the part where your brain shrinks is slightly off, the thin mebrane which your brain is in shrinks because of the dehydration and gives you teh headache, a sure solution to the headache is to drink 2 pints of water before you fall asleep, the stomach is different depending on what it is you're drinking, for beer hangovers a big fry, for spirits hangovers, water water and more water.

Good, really good advice:

To avoid a hangover the best thing is to not drink at all. Next best thing is to drink only one type of beverage IE only beer or only vodka wathever you start the drinking session with also check wich beaverages you feel better with. Eat a lot. The more you eat the slower the alcohol metabolization process and the slower you get drunk and the least hangover you have. Mix it up with water in the beginning. A couple of glasses of water before going out helps a lot. Know when to stop, if you want to have fun and not just fall on the street, evaluate how much you can take to make a good fun night. Later go to that point and stop.

The "go to sleep when your drunk" advice is often inpracticall, really drunk people can often not lay down because they have hipersensitivity to the Earths revolutions :) . Some people can sleep seated or use other ingenious solutions. If you are already more drunk then you like or begin to feel indisposed throw up (on purpose) drink water and eat something.

The hangover from hell if you have the next day free should be treated with lots of water and/or sweet beverages and sleep. Sugar helps retain water in the body for a short time and also slows down the metabolization of the alcohol reducing the amount of the alcohol waste products in the body. If you dont have time to rest because of work or something else then I would recommend the following steps:Clean as much of your stomach as possible, if early and you still have a lot of alcohol in it throw up, if it is to late eat or drink something warm and soothing for the stomach, chicken soup for example. Drink a lot of water and a small amount of alcohol (it works but I dont know why), take a couple of pain killers for the headache and a little bit of strong coffee or whatever stimulant to improve your mood, go fight your day.

That's how I know I've had too much to drink--like the time I drank everyone under the table at a friend's going-away party and ended up slamming my head into a pillow over and over to make the spinning stop...or the time I got so dizzy I went into a friend's backyard and vomitted...I came to find out later I was kneeling in a puddle of dog vomit.

Personally, though, I've never had a hangover a bottle of water and a fist full of excedrin couldn't cure.

I'm surprised I'm not hung over as fuck today... spent the whole last night drinking vodka (amongst other things), way up till 3.30am... and all that's wrong in Lala Land is the lack of sleep :)

But yeah... water = teh key in most cases. For me, anyway.

I never really understood the idea of drinking abit of alchohol to clear up the hang over? Is its like the same concept used when creating poison antidotes? You need some of the original posion to make it work. I donu.

I usually drink a few glasses of water in the bar (the water's free here), because I often forget to drink before going to bed. A little Berocca in the morning doesn't hurt either... and vomit if you must, even if it's not a pleasant experience it helps a bit, others have probably covered everything else

The whole "take a drink to stop hangover" - trick doesn't really work... It only keeps the engine running, ie. reschedules your hangover. And because you just consumed *more* alcohol, the chances are, that it'll come back bigger & badder than before.

It also highers the risk to have a heart attack, especially so if you've got a high blood preasure, it's really not recommended.

Shut up Kashmuck, you know shit about hangovers and your theories suck.

Drinking a little bit of alcohol does not postpone to a bigger badder hangover. I know, I have been there. And how in fucks sake does a little bit of alcohol increase significantly the risk of heart attack after having overloaded the body with it the night before?

That's what the recent science publishes tell me. About 20 doctors & professors from some university of medicine have been studying over this thing since the 1970's and that's what they say:

"Never take a hangover-drink, because hangover is only pushed further. (...) also puts these stressed nervecells under even more preasure, which ends up in even worse hangover." It seems that the hangover becomes worse because the state of drunkness is longer. And because heart has been stressed so badly during the drinking night, it needs rest... and when it's at it's weakest, any kind of extra stress effects it worse than it would've last night.

I got links, but they're in Finnish...

Until I turned 22, I never had a hangover. Before, I could drink all night, pass out, and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for another night of drinking. November 14 of 2002 was my first hangover..I went bar-hopping with a buddy from my home town whom I hadn't seen in about a year, and we drank about 6 pitchers each followed by a bottle of Jack Daniels...I figured we should leave when my friend started growling at people. Woke up the next morning lying on the floor outside my dorm room with a bucket full of spew sitting next to me. And I had to give a speech over Hygiene and Self-Care Skills for students with Severe/Profound Disabilities an hour later. The whole day was hell.
