Just came across a funny thing... You see these two babies here:
EXHIBIT *A
EXHIBIT *B
Guess the difference between them, besides looks & caliber? Well, *A is completely legal to own within United States, but *B is illegal. Why? Because even though *A looks just as intimidating (which it sure is, too) as *B, it is not a machinegun. No, it's manually operated gun firing repeating fire, ie. gatling gun. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms: "this weapon would operate in semiautomatic mode, each firearm discharging one round of ammunition by a single function of a trigger".
So, if you've got Gat Trigger, you can update your semi-auto guns to gatling guns - all legit! Hooray for bureaucracy!
The bottom one looks like a russian KORD 12.7mm machinegun. Those are cool guns. (checks worldguns.ru)
Yes I'm almost certain that's a Kord 12.7. Russian weapons are so cool. They always seem to want to out-do american weapons by just a liiitle bit too. 12.7x109 versus 12.7x99, heh.
I mentioned in another post about stupid gun laws. Your states gun laws ain't got nothing on the ridiculousness of the one's in Canada. I mention specifically to two things. Our gun registry program that is horribly backed up and is costing well more than analyists had perdicted. So because of all the backlogging of applications and other paperwork, it's costing the taxpayers a whole lot of money to fix a problem that never existed in the first place.
However the worst part about canadian gun laws is the fact that my government is so fucking... eastern about it. I live out west in Alberta as some may know now because of the whole BSE related post I wrote. It's pretty much like the Canadian equavalent of Texas, and some north dakota thrown into the mix. Only colder. So there are a lot of rural folk who like their guns. The laws made on this are determined by the federal government which is in the east, which doesn't exactly have the same mindset towards firearms as they do out here.
As far as I know, and I've talked to many people about this who've outlined certain aspects of my country's gun laws. There are some generally concise rules that I'm aware of. No auto firing weapons, magazines of something like 25-30 rounds are illegal... etc. However even if, say you get a gun that adheres to all the techincal specifications of the law. If it looks scary, you can't own it.
It's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. A while back I wanted to buy an SL-8 which is mechanically a G-36 retooled for civilian use. Only it -still- looks too much like an assault rifle for someone like me to buy, or so I was told by various people who run gun stores or shooting ranges around the city.
I can fire an m16 or an ak47 at a firing range if I rent it. However I can't own a .223 sporting purpose rifle because it might scare some soccer moms or yuppies because it looks like it might actually kill something. Fucking gay.
Hm... Well, I'm not much of a pro-gun person, but what you wrote there makes quite a lot of sense. But the whole point of this thread was to point out that you can have weapons firing 300 rnds per minute, which still *TECHNICALLY* aren't considered as auto-firing weapons, because they're hand rotated. So it's illegal to own a gun that has 3-rnd burst & 20 rnd clip but it's legal to own a gun that has "full-auto" and & 2x50 rnd clips.
That is retarded, no matter which side of the argument you're on.
A hand cranked appliance spraying so many hundreds of bullets a minute isn't any less dangerous than one that does the cranking for you. =P
My reply was just another contrast of how governments can be idiotic when it comes to gun laws.
I'm not exactly pro gun either. I would like to own a rifle. I do go shooting once in a while. I -was- supposed to go boar hunting this winter but that fell through. I don't think guns are for everyone and I think people should be proven responsible enough to own one. One of which is the only good things about our gun laws up here is our compulsory FAC certification course you must take to own one. It's sort of the end-users way of making a commitment to using the gun properly.
yea, but whose going to carry round one of those little gay things? If you're going to use it to rain lead death upon the heads of the public, it's not very macho eh? And to be not seen and use it would probably be pretty inaccurate. Any self-respecting psycho would rather use a sniper rifle or a smg, which would be more portable and accurate. Plus you don't have to turn a stupid little wheel. While exhibit b probably stands a higher chance of doing some damage or something.
