Patch and editors

Like Tactics? Found a cool mod for another game that reminds you of Fallout? Playing those crappy spin-off console games called "Fallout"? Discuss here.

Patch and editors

Post by JuntaJoe »

I recently reloaded my old FT game and went to reload the 1.27 patch from online.

I tried both the Interplay and Duck and Cover sources.

Both places told me after downloading that the software was corrupted.

So I tried to download/save and the open the file instead of a direct download.

But I got the same result anyway.

Anyone know where to find an uncorrupted patch or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

On another fruitless note, I downloaded the Bosche 3.1 Savegame editor from the Duck and Cover download site. It downloaded and unziped fine into the main FT folder. So I started a new game and saved it at the opening of Brahmin Wood. I stopped the game and went to the folder to use the editor. It opened fine but didn't list the save to edit. So what am I doing wrong with this one?

The patch worked just fine with me... Maybe there's something wrong with your comp?

You can also download it at NMA, if that still doesn't work try downloading it to a different area of your hard drive.

I got it to work.

I read another thread and got a good idea.

First, I deleted the game and added a new folder to the C drive.

I labeled it 14 Degrees East.

Then I loaded the game into that instead of letting it set up it's own folder in Program files.

Then I used the NMA link you gave me to download the patch.

Long wait time, but worth it.

Either the new folder location with a shorter path or the NMA patch did the trick.

Thanks for the help on the patch problem.

I still haven't seen anyone comment on the Boshe savegame editor and it's use.

I would really like to try it and could use some good info on installing and using it.

I don't use Bosche but I was reading somewhere (at Ashford City IIRC) that the Author's asked for it to be taken down from the internet. If you are just editing a new game you can use the FT Tools that come with the 1.27 patch to change virtually everything in the game anyway.

Is there a good "dummies" guide to the current FT editors on this site?

There are some tutorials on DAC, just check the main page or check my site for many basic tutorials.

Yeah, I've seen all of those and find them way too clumsy and complicated.

I have no intention of altering things like ladders, tiles, maps, etc.

All I wish to do is modify some of the existing recruits' stats.

Stitch wouldn't be a half bad team member if he could see past his nose.

I'm not comfortable opening a bunch of folders and writing in code.

All I want is a simple way to click a few times to alter the recruit pool stats.

That's what I was hoping for with the Bosche savegame editor that I can't seem to get to work.

I like the game as it is except for the oddball selection of recruits.

Didn't anyone made a decent download for the computer challenged like me?

You don't need to write in code to edit the entities in FT Tools, but you will need to unpack the file entities_0.BOS and extract it's contents to the core folder (using winzip make sure you have the option use folder names ticked). Then in the entity editor section of FT Tools you can just open up Stitch and then either go through the various folders in the main window and alter his stats, or open the edit and/or make/level windows (from the options at the top of the screen). The make/level windows are virtually identical to the character creation screen, so you should have no problem using it, unless you've always taken one of the prefab characters.

I did unzip the entities to the core folder, but can't find any of the recruits.

I looked in characters, recruits, actors, etc.

I found Pipboy, Riddick, and the Brother's Grimm in recruits.

But all the rest of the recruits are just files like dc-01, or hf-03.

When I open those they are just generic characters.

I can use the main window folders in the entity editor just fine, but finding the recruits eludes me.

If you also unpack locale_0>BOS to your core folder then in core\locale\game you'll see a file called characters.txt. By comparing this to the display name of the entities in the recruits folder you'll be able to workout who's who. Or alternatively open up one of the recruits i.e. hm09 then click on the 'level' button at the top of the screen, you'll then see the recruits name and portait and you'll see that hm09 is Stitch.

That'll work.

Thanks. :)
