id rather credit strange occurances to something that actually has a chance to exist (ie aliens), rather than something that doesnt (ie any god).Slave_Master wrote:Is crediting aliens with certain feats any less ridiculous than crediting the deity of one's choice?

id have to say aliens are more probable than a supreme deity. out of all the planets in the universe you dont think one has life other than earth. not to say that they have visited earth or even have the tech to build a city but the point stands.Kashluk wrote:This should belong in the religious conversation topic...
but I have to add this: there is no way you can proove the existence of aliens no more than the existence of God. As we have no concretic, water-proof evidence of neither, there's nothing sure to be said.

And I'd have to say, that to me a life without a meaning and The Big Bang going off all on it's own, just like that, is pretty strange too. It's more of a matter of opinion, really.
You can say there's 1:1000 chance there are aliens, but some may say it's 1:100 that there is God. Who knows. And how can we *define* God? Maybe aliens = god(s)? Or the other way around?
But, as I said, this topic is about zodiacs, the religious debate is offered in the "Another reason to be an atheist"-topic.

i just dont like the whole idea that there is a being that is all powerful and untouchable. aliens couldnt be supreme because they would have to be some form of matter to exist which means they can be destroyed.

Maybe God *can* be destroeyed. Maybe God *isn't* all powerful. The hell, maybe he's dead! We can not tell for sure, as in bringing scientific evidence for all to see, that's why it's a question of faith.
But the whole religious discussion is mostly retarded, biased shit-for-brains on both sides of the conflict: fanatic Christians & mainstream Atheists mostly. Neither of which could come up with the conclusion that Earth was round, if it wasn't for the smart people in this world.

It's possible to find physical evidence of aliens.Kashluk wrote:there is no way you can proove the existence of aliens
The Big Bang going off on its own is difficult to comprehend, this is true. However, there is a widely excepted theory nowadays as to how it happened. I don't know too much about it, but I'll try to explain anyway:Kashluk wrote:And I'd have to say, that to me a life without a meaning and The Big Bang going off all on it's own, just like that, is pretty strange too.
The idea is that matter spontaneously comes in and out of existence, while at the same time an equal amount of anti-matter also blinks in and out of existence elsewhere in the universe so that there is always a net balance of zero matter/energy. This is constantly happening throughout the universe, even today. So eventually, enough matter randomly appeared close enough together to start clumping together, and compacting, forming a massive black hole, attracting other matter which appears. Then eventually it exploded (Standard Big Bang Theory) and there you have it!
If that sounds like a load of bullshit, it's because I didn't explain it right, but I believe I have the general idea correct.
I think animals give a pretty good model of the "meaning of life". Find food, fend off predators, and ultimately reproduce to pass on your genes. Since humans are higher life forms, it's probably more complex for us. For instance, entertainment is something humans need.Kashluk wrote:And I'd have to say, that to me a life without a meaning.... is pretty strange
If my above explanation scares you, just ignore it.
Well physical evidence as in now? I haven't heard of a reliable source saying that we've met aliens. Of course, if there is life out there, we will be able to make physical contact with them and proove their existence scientifically. But what about if, one day, we could do the same with God? If he exists?
Nothing is sure, because nothing has been proven yet. I've heard equally devoted people preaching for the existence of aliens and for the existence of God. None of them had anything real to hand me, just faith. That's why I'm putting them on the same line (at the moment, we couldn't possibly know what the future unfolds).
And no, your explination didn't scare me. It's more like the "usual, boring answer" you get when you ask for the meaning of life But for me... Well, I hope it's something more than that. I really do. I may be just a naive young boy, but I really really hope there's something else to all this than just eating, sleeping and fucking as much as we can before we kick the bucket. Call me a wussy pussy, but I couldn't bare the thought of the world actually existing without a real meaning.

Life beyond our little ball of dust has actually already been proven. Think of the fossilised bacteria found in the martian meteorite fragment found on Antartica. I' m not sure if this equals physical contact but it definitly proves alien existence scientifically, although not highly evolved in the evolutonary chain ofcourse.Kashluk wrote:Well physical evidence as in now? Living life without a meaning! That's just darn gosh impossible.
Shut the fuck up. Jesus, you and your pethatic "I need a direction" DAILY routine. Not everyone need to be constantly reassured that their meaningless, boring life actually do mean something(hint: They don't).
I'm a speck in a sea of grains and I realy don't care, you know why? Because I just don't. Some of us grew out of this, this neurosis of repeatidly questioning our point of existence and realized that it realy doesn't matter , we'll cross that bridge when we get there(at least if you're a jew, I mean, everyone knows goys don't get to go to heaven). If you can't find a way to get out of your obsessive quest for a deity then at least spare us the constant post that realy, realy repeats itself. Take a fucking Prozac/Valium combination and SHUT THE HELL UP.
At last when you were posting whiny dark poetry you weren't trying to portray as a god damn intellectual while at the same time retaining your cretinish way of thinking. One can only hope you'll reach a low enough level of perdition that you'll take a great amount of hallucinogens that will change the way you view life, or at best, fry your fucking brain.
Just don't forget folks, it's not too late, we can still ban him!

Hello New Jersey
Well, it's no worse than any of the other mindless bullshit that gets posted here, and at least its fun to insult him.the guardian wrote:Shut the fuck up. Well, I could tell you the same. Mandalorean and others turned the discussion from zodiacs to theology and I only replied to it. Hell, I even asked that maybe we shouldn't go off-topic? No one was throwing insults, no one was spewing senseless shit - until you showed up. With your delicate pearl of written art, you managed to show us how deeply wounded you are inside with your bitter "oMG i'm the persecuted Jew PLz pee on me" - bullshit.
Please. If you've got something personal to say about my personal beliefs or whatever may tickle your pickle, use that little PM-button on bottom of my posts. It's a handy way if you really really have the urge to keep pouring shit over me. I hope this discussion will be over in this topic and we will go back to the original discussion. Unless you have something more to say, but I'm not replying about that on this topic anymore. Be so kind and send those private messages instead of flooding the board with this crap.
Truly yours,
the fucked-up Finnish guy
