Motivation
How do you guys usually get motivated into working on your maps/campaign? I have a hard time making myself do it. Especially if I have, for lack of a better word, "designer's block".

I had it for a couple of weeks recently. I'd sit down, open up the map for my "redux" version of mission 3 and...stare at it...blankly...
Today I sat down, opened the map, and looked at the start point -- which hasn't been fleshed out yet -- and just started tinkering w/detail work. Pretty soon I'd built a building and work is back on track.
Basically: look somewhere other than where you're having problems.

Ive had it for awhile now.. hadnt mapped much lately. I have a hard time getting a birds wiew on things... like, theres so much to be done that I dont know what to do. Heh. Im getting abit tired of Planetside, which have been taking up alot of gaming time, so I think ill get back to my campaign sooner then later. I better.. already spent so much time on the maps that it would be a big waste not to finish it, or at least downsize and finish it.

I like playing the Sims when I get stumped. If nothing else it at least stimulates that part of your brain that likes to make buildings :)
It also lets you see how different houses can be made and such. Although normally I don't suppose you would have bathroom and bedroom stuff in the same room for "convenience" :)
I guess I'll start working on all my different maps. I also need to work on my different weapons & equipment badly.

I had the motivation yesterday morning, someone's post at the interplay forums started me doing some more work on my map and I finally finished the bulk of the roof. I was really starting to get into the vibe but then had to stop as I was going to visit the APs this weekend and one of my brothers was leaning on the door buzzer.
I took a notebook with me to jot down the ideas that were coming thick and fast, hopefully by starting to implement these ideas I'll get back into the groove.

Notebooks are always good for that :)

Well in particular I meant for taking places so you can jot down any good fallout ideas you have.

One thing I find always helps me get in the mood to map, is to actually play the game unmodded. Usually by the time I'm halfway through a mission, I'm itching to open up the editor and make a map that I'd want to play.

I think I'll give that a whirl someday. My FOT motivation has been squat as of late (probably something to do with the COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF FEEDBACK ON THE REVENGE 3 BETA!!!).requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:One thing I find always helps me get in the mood to map, is to actually play the game unmodded. If the word 'actually' was added between the words 'I'd' and 'want', and if 'want' was italicised, there would be so much more punch in what you said!requiem_for_a_starfury wrote:One thing I find always helps me get in the mood to map, is to actually play the game unmodded. Hey MV, was wondering where you'd gotten to. If you've had no feedback I'd take it as, that people haven't found anything wrong with it, so release it and sod them if they come back and moan that something doesn't work. :pMax-Violence wrote:I think I'll give that a whirl someday. No I like what I said, I think most of us here have made some small alterations to either a prefab, the recruits, or the weapons etc. I can't remember the last time I played through the whole game without any mods (probably not since the first time) but playing the game as is (after the patch) just makes me want to change things. Though I should of said 'make a map that would play as I want it to.'Canis Lupus wrote:If the word 'actually' was added between the words 'I'd' and 'want', and if 'want' was italicised, there would be so much more punch in what you said!
I think they should of reused Maybe as the title song for FOT, everytime I run it (or the editors) I keep saying to myself maybe if they'd done this, or maybe if they'd done that.

I think that the Fallout Tactics Mapping & Modding Forum alone is great for motivation.
Simply reading all the new things discovered and things that can be done
(Well the impact of that what you cant do something might be negative...) gives me motivation sometimes.
Otherwise my motivation usually comes from inspiration. And you never know when that comes.
