Tank Girl

The comics: are they worth buying? I don't know much about 'em, and it's hard to find good info online. The TPB's are relatively cheap, though.

I remember DEVO did a song for the movie... or at least did a remix of one of their songs for the movie. So it can't be all bad.

The original Hewlett and Martin Tankgirl comic strip as seen in Deadline magazine were brilliant! Their later stuff went somewhat off the rails and the movie sucked mutant 'roo cock!

Somehow reminded me of the Death's Head books. Anyone ever read any of those? Its too bad he lost his humor and good looks when he become Death's Head 2 :P

I read that Bjork was originally offered the part of Tank Girl's lesbian lover. Good thing she passed on it.

Do you know if any of the strips from Deadline magazine were collected in one of the trade paperbacks?

I didn't think the movie were all that bad. It's post-apoc for chrissake. And McDowell is a rather disgusting villain. Iggy Pop and some rapper guest-stars, and there's even a musical scene. But you can tell it's based on a comic.
Anyway the comic's pretty weird IMHO, so get a sample before you decide to buy a whole collection.
Or get The Mask instead. Much graphic violence.

Agreed.

Though it did have its major flaws, it still held a somewhat interesting apoc aura...
Could easily imagine a cool story or three in the same setting. Hmm maybe start with a secret underground bunker who suddenly have their water-chip broken and...

**overused joke**

bah.... who needs comix when you can make them yourself?

the comics are fun, weird, good looking, and overall worth buying - and the movie blew.

I liked the comics, but they were really over the top...she gets to use the Good Lord's kimono as a bra, for instance...by some, if you can get them...

yes the comics are really wacky - can't forget that tank baby and probably never will - that tank of hers must be pretty potent.

So if you like mellow/dark stuff you might want to stay away or something - think more in the lines of a Ska band on Acid - and indeed not everything they produce is good, nor thought inspiring - but the raw energy most of the strips produce is for me so forgiving that the bumps almost feels like a good thing, giving character to the road so to speak.
