The SA-80 (L85) was introduced into service in 1985 and still isn't as reliable as the M16. IIRC, the fine fellows at Colt took a whole lot less than 18 years (2-3 years?) to come up with with the A1 version which fixed the few serious field problems found with the original M16. Hell, even the majorly re-vamped and improved A2 version was DoD approved within 18 years of the Black Rifle first being issued!
Well, sadly half the people in this country don't realize that it's a problem. In fact half the people here in California think Bush is doing a real bang up job. His approval rating is now up to 52% in Cali.
