Soldner (Mercenary)

Post by iohkus »

This looks like it could be something actually worth playing... seems like it's mostly emphasizing online squad based tactical combat with modern war tech. and that's nothing but good news for me and everyone else who's sick of deathmatch and CTF. Apparently it looks like an operation flashpoint meets battlefield 1942 meets renegade.

cool? it's supposed to be out this quarter, hopefully a demo is around the corner...

i recommend downloading the intro until then:

It's meant to suck, but I forgot why? It's probably good then and I just read a comment from someone who got diddled mebbe.

Looks good. I don't really bother with mp games because of my connection and they get a bit repetitive? Also most of the players get stupid after the first few months, then a few months after that they always whine about the good ol' days. A bit like a forum but instead of writing they just SUCK AT GAMES. B)

Pretty cool intro. I cant imagine why anyone would think it sucks? The vheicle and weapon descriptions are extremely detailed. How many of the real world details will actually matter in the game is the question though?

Considering the scale of PS, normal servers with a max of 32 people sounds abit boring. Also, with the amount of vheicles and weapons, 32 people in a game will be unbalanced and probaly not very fun. The 128 people servers sounds like fun though. If you could get into one of those with at least 100+ on it, it could actually get abit interesting. Hope a demo comes soon =).

i don't know, i'm not worried about server size as a vehicle based FPS based game can be fun under a variety of server sizes

it all depends on the implementation of the gameplay and how all the elements fall together, team balancing shouldn't be a problem since auto balance/shuffle would be enabled on public servers

i could have shitloads of fun in 16 player renegade servers back in the day just pounding the shit out of everyone with a medium tank, a lot more fun than some of my most memorable massive planetside battles (driving a full sunder off a cliff) but i liked both games in different ways?

i'm waiting for a multiplayer demo for this and unreal 2k4's onslaught mode

i guess until then i'll just keep my self busy with unreal 2's multiplayer tribes-esque expansion pack

edit: also insanely large servers degrade the value of teamwork as opposed to the level of coordination present in smaller groups... and insanely large servers destroy the weight and importance of individual skill and tactics in favour of massive waves of players...

also megatron, yeah multiplayer games suck, but they suck less when you play alongside people you know and trust not to be fuck heads... ie. clans or whuteva

Mmmm looks cool to me. Don't see any reason that you/anyone could say it sucks. Plus a break from the monotony of DM/TM/CTF style fps's of today is extremely welcomed by me...

Yes, Planetside is a good excample of that. The zerg sucks. But in a 100ish game of Soldner, if it turns out to be a good game, organized clan wars would be awesome I think.
