"How Kubric"

Post by Ozrat »

Okay, here's what I know about this quote.

I've seen it being used frequently here at DaC, mostly by Megatron.

But I've heard whisperings that it originates from Constinpated Craprunner, who lingers on the NMA boards. And that it's supposed to be a running joke.

Anybody care to give me their interpretations?

Back in the days of yore...

Oh, sorry. Wrong script!

Back when CC was here at DaC he was known as "Constipated Bladerunner". Among his obsessions at the time was an adulation of Stanley Kubric. (He went so far as to tell Tim Cain that he was in Kubrick's league, but that's a story for another time.) He had avs from Kubric movies, quotes from them, and in general went on and on about him.

I don't know exactly how it got started, whether it was in mockery of him, or if he said it himself, but "How Kubrick" became a synonym for "how cool". (I'd check old posts, but that era has been put in File 13, AFAIK.) So yes, it did start with or because of him, but I don't know the details.

Also, he posted a thread on NMA a while back asking how DaC was doing lately.

Seems like he still has thoughts about this place, but is too emotionally scarred to come back.

What happened? Something about claiming to be the "foremost historian on these boards"?

BTW, he's still a fucking biased idiot.

I don't know. I remember he used to get into it w/Rosh and Saint a lot. Well, he pretty much got into it w/everyone, actually. However, I wasn't here when he got banned. One of those instances where I disappeared for a bit, then came back and *poof*.
Ozland wrote:BTW, he's still a fucking biased idiot.
Why are you speaking to me as though you hadn't noticed that I've been slumming over at NMA quite a bit lately?

I read most if not all of his posts, actually. I get the impression he's reacting against really over-bearing parents. If he ever gets over the impulse to research and debate for points...watch out! He's sharper than most people give him credit for, but he appears to be blinded by anger and a need to compete.

Well he can be arrogant quite often and you saw some his recent threads at NMA - he makes a thread with very little explanation not realizing that very few people are on his wavelength of free-associations. So he sets himself up for heavy criticism and complains when it actually happens. As is typically the case, arrogance isn't tolerated here so he gets flamed for it. Its one thing to have an opinion, but its another thing to think that your opinion should be appreciated by everyone.

Update:

CCR noticed this thread and PMed me to tell me that he wishes to have this thread dropped...

Uh-huh.

But that still doesn't explain why that line is so darn popular!

OTB, you're right about him being sharper than others, especially when it comes to historical facts, but he also has a very annoying habit of posting extreme viewpoints and will absolutely refuse to conceed to the opposition when he has been out-debated.

"At this point, I could show you the Holy fucking Grail and it would do nothing" was one of his replies when somebody asked him why he always starts ignoring points when he can't come up with a counter-argument.

I feel ya, JJ86.

Yes, he can easily get out of control. No arguments there. Yes, he does bring a lot of things on himself.

I think that one of the real problems w/what goes on in the forums is that quite a few of us get sucked into "arguing for points" rather than to learn. I've been guilty of it and so has pretty much anyone that's ever been involved in a heavy debate here on DaC or over on NMA. I think that sometimes we take too adversarial a stance w/each other and we really should cut each other some slack. One of the main problems is that we're essentially "flying blind" on the net. You never really know exactly what it is you're kicking.

OTB

PS This isn't an invitation for self-congradulatory hand-jobs, either, merely a bit of moderation.

Sometimes I'll ask a question to try and figure out what it is other people think of something so I can learn a bit. But all too often I'll also include my thoughts on the subject and people then reply with rant after rant.

Sometimes people are so busy argueing against another's opinion that I think they don't even know what their opinion is. If they even have one.

Its like people who rebel for the sake of rebelling. They put all these tattoos on their body just to be different. Doesn't seem to matter to them if they themselves like it or not. Very much similar to that quote you guys are talking about. Its like something a raider would say if they were high on jet.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. " -John 3:16

Hopes. Dreams. You have to live these things. If not, they will remain prisoner within the confines of your mind for the rest of your life.

That was the que that this topic has served its purpose and it's time for the old lockety-lock.

I've asked CCR before why he isn't allowed here anymore.

He said something about Killzig banning him for some philosophical debate.

Facts?

I banned him for being a fucking whino. I was getting tired of him making posts and interjecting shit he read from his daddy's history books just to make himself seem pretty. It's very fucking offensive to someone who's a history major.

Well don't you worry, he's no longer slandering the good name of all artsy history majors.

Now he's just finding the most biased translations of the Koran to slander all muslims instead.

if he spent half as much time trying to get laid as he did trying to impress people with links he pulled off google he might not be so annoying.

Damn straight

Can't you guys take him back?

Hah, just kidding! I may not agree with his views, but he's shown little wrong with his debating methods on NMA. i.e. he's behaving
