Adventure Gamers?

I was wondering if anyone here is or considers themselves a rather hardcore adventure gamer, I suppose of the classic variety(Lucasarts, Sierra), to the newer generations(BrokenSword, Longest Journey). I was reading over on a variety of dedicated adventure game sites and, since I have been personally in love with graphic adventures...of course due to their prolific status as I was growing up, I was wondering who here plays them and maybe has something to say.

I miss them myself, what with Grim Fandango, FT and Curse of MI being the last greats.

I still play those you hear about, like the longest journey - but I'm not hardcore with adventure games, but the story and the jokes are often worth the effort.

...and the tLJ is for me the last great adventure game, with a release in 99 in europe, grim coming out 98 or so.

Now rumor says that tLJ got a M(ature) rating in the states, and thats so funnie.

Being a hardcore adventure player must be one of the hardest and lonliest of gaming occupations, but I guess they are in joy now with a FT2 and S&M2 in the works.

Full Throttle was canned ages ago...

I liked the old adventure games with parsers the best for some reason, especially the first three space quests & king's quests. Never was really "hardcore" though

I definitely enjoyed Grim Fandango if just for the fresh view it provided. I like adventure games up to a point and am thinking about getting Syberia 2 when it comes out. The one thing I'd like is for the genre to move away from the linear stories. I think that integrating AI characters would add a great dimension to the games.

I was a huge Full Throttle fan. Before that I loved the Space Quest series (well, most of it). A few of the older Kings Quest games were cool, too.

The most recent adventure game I played was this futuristic post apoc thing called Beneath a Steel Sky. It was released online for free several months ago.

yeah, played that not a long time ago too, liked it quite a bit (even though after entering the subway it got a bit poopy?), runs like a charm on scummvm, too! the cd version's voice acting was horrible though.

anyone remember dreamweb? that was pretty dope

Oh no. I just recalled that I have, in the shelves somewhere, both Discworld Noir, Starship Titanic and The Space Bar mostly unplayed. (All on sale)
Well, I guess it depends on the gang's not getting together

as we used to in the old days, had a few brews

and tried to solve those puzzles in Zak McCracken, MI 1& 2 and LSL. *misty-eyed*

Anybody remember TEXT ADVENTURES ?
Zork, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Neuromancer and such?
I kinda miss Infocom, they were quite funny at the time.

But I never really was a hardcore adventurer.

i always liked circle of blood and the sequel broken sword but i didnt think anyone had heard of them. i got them for 10 canadian in a pack of 4 a couple years ago.

space quest and kings quest games were awesome with a few exceptions. ie the last space quest and the last kings quest.

I was a fan of "The Dig" when it came out. The "Indiana Jones Last Crusade" game was also pretty fun. I remember "Day of the Tentical" being great for some reason as well.

Excellent...a whole bunch of receptive gamers.

My very first adventure game ever was Scott Adams Dracula for the Commodore Vic20 ( Use Dumbwaiter ). Played all the Infocom text adventures on the C64. I distincly remember seeing Maniac Mansion at Toys R Us of all places, which started me down the path of loving graphic adventures.

Anyway, do you guys seek games like these today or are they pretty much left to nostalgia?

well somewhat sad to hear Gimp remind me that FT2 is cancelled, I must have forgotten to protect myself from the impending doom...

EVOG> I'm still intrested, and I'm playing hybrids most of the time, even if they more or less contain easier puzzles less often and more push A for whack. That said I'll probably get any new well recived adventure game when it hits the market - even if I seem to lack the time and selfcontrol to play games like it to the finnish, and often get stuck at some weird place, swearing that I'll never download some guide and walkthrough, and then just after a few hours of frustration leave it at that.

Does Mystery of the Druids count? If so then I still play them when I can find them.

Yup, Questprobe and another. I want to say a Spiderman one and a Hulk one.

Hmmm...anyway, I'm sitting here trying to figure out why A) those kinds of adventures have been far and few between(there are the obivous answers of course)

why it is that adventures out now are all contemporary murder mysteries/treause hunt type dealies rather than the colorful romps that were the core of Lucasarts games C) can there be a resurgence of adventure gaming, maybe in an evolved state(without incorporating platforming or combat) and maintaining that cinematic appeal.

I think there still is a good variety of adventure games, maybe not on the scale there once was. Everyone is trying to make something visually appealing which means that it takes much time and effort to create the 3d graphics. Uru and Syberia are just a couple more recent ones I can think of.
