A CRPG / TradeSim called ZoneTripper

Post by Gobias »

Hi all,
right now im working on a CRPG/TradeSim called Badlands:ZoneTripper. Its nothing official yet, but i would like your comment on this. Alot of the game works right now, but there is some things that don´t. The world is the same as "Badlands"(My old game, still working on that too). Its the old post-war Europeand the player starts out in whats left of northen Germany/Polen, and tries to survive by trading or killing. Its kinda mix of old Elite and Wasteland, you will see what i mean. Right now im working on the questpart, and of course all the freaking graphics. The player will be able to save his/her character online. This game is nothing official yet, but i really want your feedback on the issue.

The game is on http://www.gobias.com/zonetripper

Have a nice day!

Hmm, it actually looks good. Can you make it as a downloadable flash game? I would like to play on another computer that doesn't have an internet connection.

It would be cool if you could see avatars of NPCs and all characters you can interact with. There are several sites I know where you can create pictures of people by changing eyes, hair, nose, mouth, etc. Then just save the pic or make a screen shot. Also would be cool to have a simple top down view map of the towns showing you moving to different locations. You could make them like street maps or atlases. Maybe also show a view of buildings as you enter. I like the concept of static shots instead of animations, they work well with how you have it set up.

Good idea that it should be possible to download an exe-file, but then im not sure how i will solve the “save character-part. I will look into that, if its possible in flash to save to an local harddrive(maybe security issues her). But i will fix that no prob, somehow. The avatars of the characters will be done soon, it have been the plan since the beginning that the avatars should have just such animation you are mentioning, very much like in ol´Bards Tale with little animation(eyes looking, wind blowing etc). And as you can see alot of the gfx isnt finished yet. About the idea with a top map of the village/city, also an good idea! Thx for the input! Generaly i want to get that nice “do what you want-feeling. So, now im working on the bar(in the cities), where you will overhear romours, get quests or just get plain drunk. So, there will be quests.

How is the save character part handled currently? You don't anticipate someone to finish the game in one sitting?

Right now there isnt any save - funciton in the game. But i have the code ready, so it wont be to long before its in there. As its an beta, early one. But it will be possible to save online. Why online? Well, then you will be able to play the game at home, then go to work and play there, then mayby just maybe, go to another country and play there on a internet café. :)

And right now its hard, very hard(Junk Lords are a pain in the aaa) :)

Have a nice day!

Haha, I got a laugh out of one of the towns named "New Haven". I actually live in New Haven, CT.

This is really cool. I keep dying, but thats fine for an incomplete game. If you can save online, then will you also be able to play online eventually?

Good work Gobias, this looks sweet.

Sry Mad Max,
but the names will be changed to protect the inicent. :)
It will be more of European names in the game. Valut City is now changed to Vault Hansa and has got a picture. We will see about New Haven. :)

Thx for all the critic, keep it coming all of you!

What about affecting movements rates based on terrain? Didn't the old Wasteland slow you down when passing mountains?

Movement: Yes, thats an good idea, to have different terrain that could slowdown etc. There will be vehicle´s aswell, so the litte red dot moves faster across Europe. Bigger text: You are absolutely right. To small text.

Thxs!

Nice to hear FF. :)

Well, the game is kinda "unplayable" right now, meaning its to darn hard. But the economy works, and soo does the combat(but maybe the Junk Lord is a little over the edge :) ). But still, there is ALOT to be done before its really fun. Will try to fix some bugs and some gfx in the weekend. The "save" function will not be inplanted before its more of a game, not a testbeta like now. But i have to say one thing: sure feels much easier to work on the game now, after all the nice input. :)

Me and my gfx-sidekick Andy will keep you all up to date.

Have a nice day!

Aside from the "Desert eagle" and a few very minor grammar mistakes, its looking good. I already prefer it to any recently released IPLY product.

Ermm, is there anyway to actualy make profit from the trade?

Good project, good start.

:: Edit ::

Just thought about something that will increase life expectancy some...

When a 'encounter' is over, I can't heal myself. Only in battle... And then I waste 50 credits on a Medkit that is already chipped off once I click it. Maybe when the fight is over give the possibility to heal?

Maybe also add the option to heal in cities? Or use meds, whatever heh.

Yupp, thats right "clicky clicky" on the not so good looking "Camp" and you will be able to heal/reload and in the future there will be "Hunt" & "Search for Artifacts"(when in a "Zone").
Profit is possible, buy agri-stuff in Salem and sell them in Hansa, buy mech/tech in Hansa and trade them in Salem. In New Haven(taken over by a not so legal gang) you should bye drugs / organs(my english suxx, help!). Right now you can only buy and use one vest at a time, so if you feel lucky, sell the vest at start (for apx 250) and buy goods, and the proft will come earlier. :)
