The Fog on the Tyne...
... is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine.
Seriously, people were having problems with Deathground because of the lighting, but has anyone experienced slow down from using the light setting Fog?
I've an underground sector on my map I want to be pitch black, but the only way to do this is to set the time of day to -1. Which means the surface will be pitch black as well which is no good as I want it to be daylight up above. So I thought about using fog to obscure the area, but does this cause any problems for people? Bearing in mind I didn't have any problems with the lights in Deathground on my machine.

I've been playing around and I'd need to set up a couple of dozen fog entities, at least, to cover my underground area properly. Instead what I think I'm going to do is force the time of the map to -1 and then stick a very large light entity on an invisible tile high above the map. I'm just experimenting with colour and intensity to match daylight. As long as I get the low bound right I should be able to have daylight on the surface and absolute darkness down below.
Hopefully this will also be less of a strain on some people's systems.
Does anyone know if there's a limit to how long a string for lights can be?

Yes, experienced slowdown due to the Fog setting. I originally had used it in the radioactive tunnel in The Refinery, but changed it due to slowdown. (Looked very good, though. Green vapors reaching out to choke the life out of the player...)requiem wrote:Seriously, people were having problems with Deathground because of the lighting, but has anyone experienced slow down from using the light setting Fog?
Is this what was done w/the SRE "Pitch Black"?requiem wrote:I've an underground sector on my map I want to be pitch black, but the only way to do this is to set the time of day to -1.
I have no idea if there's a limit or not.requiem wrote:Does anyone know if there's a limit to how long a string for lights can be?

Yeah, though the only problem is the sun never rises when you set it to -1. So if I set up my big light (which is looking the way to go) and the mission lasts a while it will be 'noon' for a long while. :confused2:OnTheBounce wrote:Is this what was done w/the SRE "Pitch Black"?

Interesting thing, I set up my sunshine light entity on level 40, with a 450 m radius to cover my map, and a low bound of 12 which cuts the light off at level -6 (I have a trench in the map I didn't want dark). When I when down to my tunnels everything was pitch black without me having to force the start time to -1. Hmm something to explore or exploit prehaps?

RE
Maybe your map just happened to start at a darkened hour?
I dunno. If the light seems to cancel out the default sunshine, then wouldn't that make it a little unbelieveable at nighttime?
Although it would certainly make for some more interesting maps. Especially with dark alleys and such.
