Johnny Depp for best actor? Sean Penn? Bill Murry? WTF is the world comming to. Anyways there is alot of new found Depp lovers, but he was way overated in PotC. But he was funny. But he was original. He had charisma. lewl.

bah... in a day and age when Michael friggen Douglas is getting a lifetime achievement award I don't think Johnny Depp is at all overrated...

you look at douglas' career he's been in a couple of good films but he ALWAYS SEEMS TO PLAY THE SAME FUCKING CHARACTER. With the exception of Gecko in Greed, Michael Douglas hasn't "owned" a single one of his roles.

Depp on the other hand was pretty farking good as Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood. Benny and Joon.

Bill Murray has been on a pretty good run lately. Maybe its the Wes Anderson influence. Either way, I'm looking forward to this year's movies rather than looking back to last years. There really wasn't anything all that exceptional. This year promises new Gilliam (Brothers Grimm), Hellboy, Troy, Alexander, bah but i'm rambling. IN CONCLUSION, This year > Last year. k thx bye.
The answer to your first question is shaddup.

Don't forget that GLADIATOR beat out Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? and Almost Famous a few years ago. The Academy sucks.

He's worse than his father -- the Mel "I must show off my anatomy" Gibson of his day -- was about that, and that's bad.

Something told me that Killzig would have a stiffy for the Troy and Alexander numbers due out this year.

Bill Murray is a fucking great actor, Poop. He does well in pretty much all of his roles, good or bad, and is a master of unenthusiatic, bored dry wit.

I can only hope LotR wins nothing and the fat little LotR fans cry me a river.

Otherwise, these nominations are pretty boring.

So you're one of those that watched the first movie for 10 minutes, and then got up and left? Maybe most people that like the movies have read the books? Hmm.. I just don't understand why some people don't like the LOTR movies. Is it because its not nasty and doesn't have gobs of foul language?

But anyway, I don't really care if LOTR gets any rewards. I know it should, but as long as I get to buy the films (that I like) later and watch them as much as I want, that's what really matters. I just wish they'd make The Hobbit (There and Back Again), as I liked it better than the other books. I can't see the director doing it thought, considering he didn't like the last part of the third book and completely cut it out.

I don't much care for them because they tend to drag in certain patches and they're filled with vaguely homosexual moments when two guys just stare/hug and cry for ten minutes.

I like Johnny Depp in most of his movies, and Bill Murry is good but I can only take so much of him. In PotC Depp was mega overated, like him or not. Sean Penn can suck a cock, he was one who dissed America while overseas.

and ya micheal douglas should be banned from the oscars.

I thought Kill Bill was one of the years best, but Killzig thought the blood looked fake. heh.

I hate a majority of LOTR fans. Especially the crazy females who for some odd reason claim an actor to be "Theirs" and only "theirs". I had one really crazy one who is not only convinced its real, but is actively looking for a way into "Middle Earth". Seriousily, she not only believes it real, but theres a way into it because "Tolkien couldn't make all that stuff up!" I can't make up stupidity like that, honest.

The Academy Awards is basically a barometer to see how Hollywood feels about itself. It's bullshit, really. It's all a completely rigged, staged facade.

Fuck the Academy. They award the stupidest shit that doesn't deserve it.

The Final Fantasy movie wasn't so great, but damn it, they didn't even include it in the CGI films category that year (the first year they even had the award). The fact that it looked so amazing and that they omitted it tells you something.

The Academy has their heads up their asses.

No. We don't like them because:

a) They suck.
b) They're overrated.
c) They suck. Again. Some more.

I liked Fellowship just fine, but The Two Towers was overstuffed, boring, self-important, and just generally a waste of time. I have absolutely no desire to see Return of the King, no matter how many people say it's the best in the trilogy.

Almost Famous was fantastic, and totally robbed. Gladiator sucked donkey. Crouching Tiger should have won. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, dammit!

I'm rooting for Mystic River this year, even though I haven't seen it. (I read the book, though, and it was amazing.)

I've seen and read it all, so you can fuck yourself. The movies are terribly directed, badly translated and interpreted (pretty much copy pasted from the book), aren't very entertaining, are needlessly epic, and even lose sense of the story quite a few times. They have a few things going for them (okay acting, nice cinematography, mildly entertaining) but for the most part they're shit.

great lets misquote killzig and call him an idiot off of that misquote. First of all, there's nothing to "get" in regards to Kill Bill. It's bland, simple, trite. A montage of scenes from every grindhouse flick Tarantino's ever seen with a sonny chiba cameo just to tickle the idiot's senses. I've never liked grindhouse so it would follow that I hated Kill Bill. There isn't a shred of originality in the film, you'd be complimenting the acting to call it stale, and calling the story "a story" is insulting to plot lines everywhere (even battlefield earth's)... It's a B movie and it revels in being a B movie. It's Tarantino being Tarantino which is actually every crappy 70s action director he ever watched while working at the video store. At the beginning I thought I might actually like the movie. The fight scene with Vivica is well done and the characters involved actually show more than a thimble's worth of depth, unfortunately that scene ended rather quickly and the rest of the movie began. It's an endless fight scene and that's fine with me, its not my cup of tea hut please don't try to pawn it off to me as some great offering to the world of cinema. You'd be better off trying to wiggle your toe. (Worst scene in film history)

Situations like this are where I really empathize with Ozrat's hatred of liberal farts.

You're a moron because you don't get it! Praise me and my Ph.D in Film Appreciation!

I enjoyed Kill Bill because I like movies that are filled to the brim with mindless violence. Trying to justify that mindless violence by injecting deep meaning that only the most clever of film connoisseurs would get into the movie is, to use a colloquialism, bullshit. There's no meaning whatsoever in it -- just action. Like Killian said, it's not everybody's cup of coffee.

Even though I liked the movie, I'm greatly inclined to agree with Killian's assessment of the toe wiggling scene. Five minutes (Or more? I haven't seen it since it was first released) that could have been used for violence.

I liked Kill Bill, it wasn't that extreme or anything but fun anyway. The fights and music were good but it wasn't tongue in cheek enough for me. There should have been at least another fight, more violence and less close-ups of feet, people swearing and messing around with time? He's already done it twice, can't he just make a dumb movie without making a tarantino movie (a dumb movie that says motherfucking swell guy and the editor is on crack). Just watch any asian movie, chances are it's been 'payed homage' too in any western artsy movie.

Kill Bill>Lord of the rings. If I have too sit through another 3 hours of crap waiting for the good part again I'll get pissed off or something.
