JPL Engineer...and she's a cutie.
Um, Jeopardy is about 'uncommon' knowledge. The obscure shit no one knows. Not about intelligence at all, though you could argue that intelligence aided in their ability to comprehend what they were reading, as information retention is much higher when the brain can make associations and relationships through understanding material, filing it away in a nice abstract form in your brain to be ripped out at a moments notice.
Ever wonder why you remember things that you comprehend or enjoy? Same dealie. Thats why young kids are receptive to educational games played on the computer. That enjoyment from the stimulation helps reinforce the 'larn'in'.
Cheers

Classic literature, history, and geography are examples of obscure shit no one knows, eh? I take it you think being well-read is worth nothing. So much for education, huh?EvoG wrote:Jeopardy is about 'uncommon' knowledge. The obscure shit no one knows.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
She's cute and smart. It's just a shame most guys can't handle a relationship with a woman who's got 30 IQ points on them and earn's twice what they do.... She's probably gonna have to spend the rest of her life fighting off complete arseholes while the guys she does fancy are way too scared to ask her out.

I applaud you 'consistent' ability to misconstrue every single thing I say.atoga wrote:Classic literature, history, and geography are examples of obscure shit no one knows, eh? *sigh*
No atoga, I did NOT say NOR imply that being well read is worth nothing. How you got to that conclusion is, as usual, beyond me.
Yes that shit is NOT common UNLESS you indeed DO read literature, listen to classical music and study history and geography, etc. Unless you specifically expose yourself to that kind of education, you will NOT just 'know' that stuff, therefore, it is NOT common knowledge.
Um no, she either has great bone structure, proportion, shape or she doesn't. Unless her environment SMASHED her face in, she'll look like the same either way, even with dirt on her face and disheveled hair. If you want to go the full length of the discussion and say that if she's starving and horribly malnourished, fine, then she will look different and possibly less attractive. OTHERWISE, no, she looks the way she does physically simply due to her genetics. If she can look good all clean and healthy, then she can get all clean and healthy if shes NOT clean and healthy, and then look good again. At best I could agree to say that she looks good due to genetics and personal care and style, as she can do things to enhance what is already there that looks good, thusly 'increasing' her attractivness.Stainless wrote:Appearace is a combination of genetics AND environment. It is a scientific fact that phenotype (In our case. Appearance) is a result of the combination of our genetics and environment.EvoG wrote:Um no, she either has great bone structure, proportion, shape or she doesn't. Sigh. Phenotypes are the result of effects of environmental factors on genes, nothing to do with labour camps.Stainless wrote:It is a scientific fact that phenotype (In our case. Appearance) is a result of the combination of our genetics and environment.
ADD: Just to clarify this before the all dreaded 'misconstrue' comes into play...
Environmental factors affect the genes, thus the genotype is going to influence the phenotype obviously. If beautiful Jessica's PARENTS were in labour camps, breathing in chemicals or exposed to say radiation, affecting THEIR genes, then passing it along to Jessica is likely and would affect her appearance ( in our case, phenotype).

But something related to her beauty is being overlooked: culture. Her feature may be attractive today, but wouldn't have been a while ago, and may go out of fashion again.
Considering how wildly aesthetics vary from culture to culture and period to period it just has to be said. After all, in Japan up until the the late 19th Century a pearly white smile was considered a defect that women stained their teeth to get rid of; and being slim is also rather a new thing, considering how just a short time ago women would actually pay artists to make them look a little heavier than they were.
That being said, I do find it heartening that a woman that happens to fall into the current paradigm of what is "hot" has managed to put her gray matter to use rather than ending up strutting around on a catwalk somewhere or as someone's trophy wife.
OTB

Environment in this sense is regarded as everything in your surrondings. Disease, social, mutation, other living organisms, etc. Not all environmental factors affect genes. Thus someone who is obese may have genes that give him a desirable figure, but the social implications of him over eating are factors of the environment. Not because his genes decided to get fat one day.
Labour camps was just an example of an environmental effect. She'd probibly have nurmours illness which can have an effect on her metabolism, etc.
Stainless, you're kidding right? *rubs temples* YES SURE, alright her genetics AND the fact that she has NO diseases and boys were attracted her to her when she was young (keeping her from overeating), makes her attractive.
Do you know how fucking stupid this thread is now. I make one rather benign post about a cute smart chick and so far in this thread I've got guys that surely never even touched a girl tell us "meh, she's alright, I'd do her"(of COURSE you'd do her nerdboys! She'd be doing YOU the favor, not the other way around), to a discussion about the relativity of intelligence to us now playing the 'uber smart guys' and replacing "she's cute" with a 50 cent fucking science word (sorry Stainless).
OMFG
, DORKS, SHE'S A CUTE CHICK WHO SURPRISINGLY IS IN A FIELD WHERE PEOPLE, LET ALONE CHICKS ARE NOT NECESSARILY 'CUTE'. THATS IT!! DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN, STOP TRYING TO SHOW EVERYONE YOU'RE T3H SMAR7 GUYS AND STFU.
( I liked your post OTB since I learned something new about teeth and culture (and also because you don't post stupid stuff), though yea, of course beauty is pretty obviously cultural as well, or else I'd probably, um, not think she's cute...BUT I STILL LIKED YOUR POST...so the above outburst is not aimed at you.
<---I couldn't find the ass kissing emote) hehe...
Anway, yea, she is pretty hot...I'd do her....
Cheers
