Counter-Strike maybe?

Low learning curve? Check!
Runs on shitty PC's? Check!
Best played on LAN's with Friends? Check!

just don't play it online on a pub internet server with the rest of the 13 year old asshats. you'll want to crawl thru your computer thru phone and cable lines and pop out their monitor and strangle each and every one.

Yeah, we mostly played CS and Day of Defeat last time, but they do get a little boring after 12h or so if you don't have any other games :S

Indeed, most of the older rts games should work even on a 750mhz. Age of Empires 2, Dune 2000,... And how about some older racing games like Need for Speed? Those are the games we play on Lan when some people bring along there outdated machines, which are slowly disapearing.

rainbow six games might be alright. Not sure if operation: flashpoint would work. I like TFC, but you need a few players for it too play alright.

WC3 will be able to play on a 750mhz, the game is quite scalable so you can tone the graphics till the best FPS. Required is like 500mhz and 800mhz is recommend, plus its a Blizz game so it will run pretty solid.

Serious Sam is really fun on LAN, so was Icewind dale multiplay. I also enjoyed Ghost Recon on LAN. A few others that come to mind are:
Diablo (not diablo II)
Arcanum multiplay mods (sort of)
Fallout tactics multiplayer demo (100x better then the actual game)
Freelancer (not sure you could run this)
An old version of Graal (doubt you can find it)
Starcraft (of course)
(theres more, im just forgetting)

Some good HL mods are:
Wasteland Beta 1
DMZ (I dont really like bragon ball, but the mod was fun)
ARG!, the pirates stike back (if you can find it)
Destert Crisis
Master Sword
Sven Coop (plenty of fun lans with this one)
Rocket Crowbar
Project Defender (in french, and poorly made, but somehow fun)
The Specialists

That's a great point. GTA2 multiplayer is a fucking GREAT LAN party game.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

GTA 2 multiplay? I never played much of GTA2 because it wasnt nearly as good as the original. Is multiplay similar to the main game, but with more players, or is it entirely different?

Its basically the same as SP, but a few exceptions. No missions, toggable cops, etc. I think you may be able to turn cars and peds off too, but not sure.

Its fun to get the powerup where you get several "followers", load them up in a truck and wreak havoc.

Also, GTA1 is free to DL at rockstar..I'm unsure if that has MP though.

Rogue Spear blows. Majorly.

Other than CS, TF and Starcraft: BW, the only game I really can recomend is Baldur's Gate I or II.

You can also go a little further back and play C&C or Red Alert. Those were great as LAN games way back then, don't see any reason why they won't be fun today.

FPS: Enemy territory, counter strike or System Shock 2.

Strategy: Starcraft or Red alert. Maybe Red alert 2 but read the minimun requerements first.

Get enemy territory. Its free. If you get bored if your LAN, host a game and create a temporary clan. Your clan against the noobs. :joy:
