STALKER Chat And Some Possibly Bad News

[Game -> Update]

The other day Oblivion-Lost held a chat with GSC Game World about their upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost. There’s a lot of boring stuff, so a summary was provided:

- Due to some difficulties GSC is not sure if Co-op will be in.

- You won’t see that well at night and your character will become tired faster if he carries wet clothes.

- One part of the team wants to see female characters in the game, the other doesn’t. GSC is not sure yet…

- Up to now, almost nothing was cancelled from the concept-list. Everything is going according to the schedule.

- The DX 8 part of the engine has been finished, working on DX 9.

- The voices of the characters will be localised.

- A change of the name to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: The Shadow of Chernobyl is possible.

- The game will support 5.1 Sound.

- A realistic aiming-system is planned.

- Soon, a REAL gameplay-trailer will be released.

- There will be vehicles in MP as well.

- In the latest day/night cyclus trailer you only saw DX 8 footage.

- You will also be able to kick and punch.

- The game will support the 64-bit technology oF AMD.

- Almost all objects can be moved and pulled.

I think I can sum it up in one word: Bummer.

Sounds fine to me. I wasn't going to play the co-op anyway. I like the realistic aim and the unarmed attack stuff.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Does STALKER actually stands for anything?

Also, is the MP like a CS on big maps, or do you play the game, only head-to-head, in different factions?

Apparently yes, but the team is staying tight-lipped on the matter. They stated that the meaning of it will be revealed in the game.

Co-op, schmo-op. I want a game that plays well. And from the sounds of things, it looks like everything is coming along quite nicely. The "tired faster if clothes are wet" thing makes sense, as long as they don't go overboard with it (System Shock 2's Weapon Maintenance, anyone?).

Localized character voices...does that mean they'll speak Russian? Kick. Ass. I love me some Subtitles In The Name Of Geographical Accuracy.

Maybe it means they are incorporated in the game as any environmental sound? Like in Morrowind, when someone talks to you and you look at your left, you'll hear him in your right hear?

No Coop? Damn, that was one of the features I was really looking forward to. I suppose I can still adventure with my friends out in the Zone, Just we wont be able to complete quests togethor. I wonder if I will still be able to be in the same vehicle as them?

- You will also be able to kick and punch.
Which might turn out to be bloody useless.

I'm glad I didn't even know that coop was originally planned.
Now I'm not disappointed.

Stalker stands for what you play in the game ; a "Stalker" ... The idea is taken from the russian novel Roadside picnic.

And uhm ... no coop? How about removing multiplayer all together cause it will just be another counter-fucker-strike? yes i think they should.

The realistic aiming system sounds very awsome. Plus the fact that they said all their concepts are in the game/not cut out is very good news too.

I think the game would be better with the alternate title, it more accurately represents what it is all about-- chernobyl

I'll be sad if they can't get co-op in as I was really looking forward to it. Friendly help on missions sounds like glorious adventure.

"S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost" is the working name, Grimnar. It also does stand for something, but, as Role-Player points out, the team is tight-lipped on what it is, saying only that when we play it we'll find out.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Its just a working name? And just by chance the short spells STALKER? Or maybe its not a short for anything at all? whatever ...

Fact still remains, you will play an individuall callled a Stalker, wich is loosely based on the characters in Roadside picnic.

If they wouldnt spend so much time arguining about a new name, perhaps they could make coop possible.

I dunno why everyone is getting so worked up about Co-op, it really isn't practical to implement in a very detailed games. It must send developers nuts trying to implement it, so it's probably better to remove it, rather than waste time doing something that will ultimately be doomed to be half-assed.
