Silent Storm = t3h w1n

Post by EvoG »

I don't have anything to really say...just that the game rocks and it smokes any TB I can remember liking...and in light of the last TB game release, *cough*ToEE*cough, this is just way more fun by leagues.

Terribly satisfying lighting up an area rife with destructible shit (well keep in mind everything is destructible ); stuff that breaks fast like furniture, windows and doors, anyway, lighting up a room on auto, shit going up in smoke and debris while pinging a nazi in the head...thats really a good time.

All it took was some great feedback like this for the player and it just makes it a joy to watch, so Kudos to some forward thinking game design. Go buy now.

Cheers

Alot is destructable. It was fun, then you got these power armor thingys and you never stepped out cause you'd die so fast. So after half the game you spend the rest sitting in one of those things, pretty boring.

The only thing fun was opening up with that MG-42 and keep opening up... That's it.

whaaa?

I got my suits 2 missions from the end. It's also optional, so I don't know what crasy game you played silver.

Silent storm is really fucking good, get it plz. Non-linear squad-based gameplay with deformable terrain, physics and other shizzle. w1n

Will the expansion pack includes multiplayer?

And is there any story?
Kashluk

There's a story alright, but it's no fancy stuff alá Planescape: Torment or Fallout. Just simple 40's sci-fi.

But the gameplay rocks.
And as far as I know, there is an unofficial way to play in multiplayer. I've seen those MP screenies on some Russian Silent Storm forum (couldn't tell anything from the text but the pics were nice). Nothing special really, it seems it's quite buggy.

Hmm I'm like 10 missions in and still no panzerklein's, so I guess it just REALLY depends on how you play. The game though is great, one of the better PC games that I bought recently. Easily some of the most fun since I bought Jagged Alliance 2. I suggest it to anyone.

I got it too and think its great. I really like the way you can shoot through any object, it adds a totally new concept to your strategy and how tou plan out a mission.

My team was way too slow and unstealthy to sneak behind the enemy, so I just usually blasted them through the walls when no direct assault was possible. Two machinegunners armed with Mg42s usually did the trick. If not, then I always had a guy carrying a bazooka, just in case ;)

I hardly ever use the PKs and always moved silent, besides when I blew stuff up or used the snipers.

my team contained 2 scouts, 1 enginer, 2 snipers and 1 medic.

the main scout got too good in the end, killing anything with the katana, being able to do insane ammount of hits with it per turn, and actually got a negativt AP cost for throwing knives. So there are problems, I was actually forced to avoid using her to avoid making all but the final mission too easy after some 10 missions and countless of REncounters - after mission 3 she never touched a firearm.

But while she was kept under control the game was so fun to play, and once I was done with the über boss I started a new team.

In my other game (Allies) I use soldiers and grandiers only, with the help of one enginer - a diffrent game, and by avoiding random encounters (they can often contain balance breaking items, and besides that gives good XP) - I've not reached the PKs in this game but I plan to avoid them here as well as they are so sluggish.

the game can ruin itself if you take the easy route, and you can find too powerful items on randomecounters - but on hard or impossible without random encounters and without training after the missions I'm having a blast with the 2nd team.

Silent Storm is an ownens game. They did a great job. But, I dunno if any of you have ever played the old X-Com game, but those, too, were turn-based. But, where they take off from the others is in terms of managing you own base, researching weapons and armor, and a sense of fear. If Micropose were to ressurect X-Com, and create it from the Silent Storm engine, that would be a most excellent game indeed.

Can you play the Germans as well?
Kashluk

Post by Kashluk »

Yup. The Axis and the Allies both have their own campaigns, there's like a billion-kazillion weapons (ranging from Finnish SMGs to American carbiners) - both real and fictional, tons of funny characters from various countries and other kinky stuff that gives quite a positive look of both sides of the conflict.

It's not really WW2, it's the war in candy-color land.

Yeah this game really deserves to be purchased, as its worth it for the quality that these guys put into it. Sure a lot of games are trash, but I want to see talented developers getting their money they most definitely deserve.

Plus you all bitch about high quality turn-based games not being made anymore, and here is one of the best ever made and you're complaining its not available for you to gank for free. :confused2: If they don't sell then of course they won't make anymore and all we'll get is FOBOS. You can rationalize it by saying "I wouldn't buy it anyway so they wouldn't make any money from me either way", well, look at it as showing support for a clearly receding genre of gaming, and maybe just maybe turn based gaming, especially RPG's such as Fallout can emerge. Remember, the same amount of people downloading games that are not mainstream takes a greater toll on the developer than if it were a high end commerical game that was being w4r3z'd, that would feel the impact of the p1r4t3d game less(doesn't make it less wrong of course).

They need all your money to show its worth making these games.

Cheers

Yea I might consider buying it if it's THAT good. You will never make me buy EA or Westwood games tho.

I'm just too used to buying 60$ games which are trash or only last 20 hours.

I agree with that..but most games have demos now, so the risk is diminished.
Kashluk

Post by Kashluk »

Who downloads demos these days? I'm not going to spend an afternoon on my computer downloading a 50MB - 400MB package just to try a few levels of Yet Another Average PC Game.

IF the game gets good reviews I'll
- download it with p2p services
- try it out
AND THEN buy a real copy if it's worth it
if it's NOT worth it, then I'll at least have
*something* to do during the rainy days

That's what I did with Half-life and Operation flashpoint for example.
