The '66 GT 350H kicks major ass although it only has the C-4 automatic transmission instead of a fourspeed toploader (manual). The 9" rearend kicks ass on those things though. I do love old mustangs I have a '65 mustang 289 V-8 as a matter of fact. It has good power and is fun to drive. The 1st Gen. Camaros kick ass as do the 1st gen. firebirds.

new fords look alright. those 80s mustangs look like shit. and there are 60 million of the little bastards. most of them dont even have v8s.
66s coming with automatics sounds a little off to me. something with a 350, i would assume, would come with a standard because the horse would own an old automatic. plus the horsepower drop might be a factor too.

Most of the gearheads at my school say the same thing. There's this one guy who has a mid to late 80s chevy, and it came with a fuel-injected V6. He couldn't figure out how the fuel system worked, so he put a carbureted 305 in it. He now gets more power with the insurance of a V6-powered car.
Well, it is a rental car. Mr. Hertz and company would rather you not take their car to NASCAR or other racing venues. I heard that "engine swap" story too. They were talking about it on the History Channel one day, so I guess that it did happen. Hertz must have been really pissed. You get the car back, you open the hood to do some routine maintence on it, and you find a completely different engine there! Now that gentlemen, is a car. The 04 WRX STi's come off the line with 300hp at 300 ft lb torque and will do 0 - 60 in about 5 flat. That's stock, completely untouched except by the Subaru engineers. Imagine what you could get out of it by staging up the turbo and playing around under the hood.
Just look at that cockpit man. Looks like sex without all the hassle.

That doesn't lessen the spirit of the cars themselves. That's just like saying a particular type of music or art or movie sucks because the people who enjoy it are assholes, generally.

Besides, I didn't say I drove one, I just said I liked them. I happen to drive a 97 Cougar Special Anniversary Edition with a 'Stang 5.0 V8 in it. ABout as domestic as you can get. Like I said, I have love for both import and domestic. I just happen to drool after WRX STi's more than is healthy.

Okay, this will probably be a big-ass post, but here goes.
Stock, you say? That's all well and good, but those "stock" performance figures are probably near the upper limit of of what that teeny-weeny V6 (or mayber V4?) can do. Sure, you could raise the boost of the turbo, to say, 15-20 psi, and add a nitrous oxide system to add to temporary power output, but why bother? Truth be told, you can get those very same figures from a big V8 engine, and that's WITHOUT a turbocharger. You can easily get more out of an American V8. Cheaper, too, and there is no "turbo lag" to worry about when you are drag racing.
As for stock cars, yes, modern Jap rice burners do have more power from the factory than similar American manufacturers, but there is a reason for that.
American car manufacturers have been using relatively mild powerplants for their performance vehicles for a good while now. Why? Ask them. Not me. I cannot even begin to fathom why Ford doesn't take their new 2004 Mustang Mach 1 and put a stroked, high revving 351 ci Windsor engine in it. But I know that they can. And I know that I can too, with enough know-how, time, and money. So I'm not worried. Ford has, on average, been selling over 100,000 Mustangs every year since the mid-to-late '90s. With production numbers like that, there is no real need to make them faster. The market demand simply isn't there. Or so it seems.
Also, the fact that mostly swell guy, wiggers, latinos, and other minority groups drive such cars and help to make them popular, I will never own such a "hyped" vehicle, nor will I ever have any interest in them. Is that being racist? Well, yes, it is. But as a member of The Man's (tm) sect of peoples (ie white) I try to do things the "White way". Otherwise known as the right way. (joke intended)
Personally, if you like such vehicles, fine and good. I won't stop you. That is part of being American, respecting (and sometime's tolerating) other people's likes and beliefs is a constant thing. Go out there and have fun.
Ah, you show your true colors. Words are cheap, but actions run deep. I congratulate you on your ownership of a truly American car. Do you have good, performance mufflers on the Courgar? You know, like flowmasters? The kind that make the 302 growl? Man, I love that sound. I have similar type mufflers on my "Stang, and that V8 growls when I hit the gas. Mmm. Now there's a warm, fuzzy feeling. Come to think of it, I might just go and start her up just to hear that sound for a little while.

The only good car is a foreign car (to those of us in America). The Japs and Krauts make 'em a lot better. To my taste, there hasn't been that many good cars made in America since the 70's. However, if you go back that far, 50's-70's, America reigns supreme.
