Not quite, Macross was just the "Macross" section of Robotech plus some additional changes and such. Robotech was a blending of three differant series that had nothing to do with each other. There were some story differances ofcourse.

I loved the Clans from FASA's Battletech Universe. My favorite clan was the Smoke Jaguar clan, by a mile.

I hate what the recent Mech Assault did to the series. It sickens me!

My favorites... hmm... Daishi and Timber Wolf. I hate what happened with the Clans as well. The Clans were my favorite part about the whole universe, and how that ended was moronic.

Clans were always cool in my opinion but I was always more of an Inner Sphere type of guy. My favorite clan was ofcourse Ghost Bear. Hmm as for my favorite Mech, thats a hard one. I like acouple. Its a toss up between the Thug and the Loki (clan mech).

Oh man. I completely forgot my absolute favorite: the Zeus. Ha, I loved that mech. I only liked one of hte Inner Sphere nations, so when the clans came trampling in, I was quite happy.

Axman was and still is my favourite 'Mech.

And yes, we all know BattleTech was a ripoff from Robotech. Hell, even the first BT game had things that looked ripped out of the show.

As for clans, I never worried about them. Jade Falcon is the one that stands out for me though.

And I didn't move it because...well, I'm just lazy. I'll move it now. Might rename it too.

also.

1. It's spelt Daishi
2. I take it you mean the Mad Cat/Timber Wolfi. not the wild cat. (think Maruder + Catapult)

Actually, the original 16 'mechs for Battletech (which was actually the 2nd edition of "Battle Droids") didn't all come from Robotech. They were ripped off from numerous different Japanese series, although the largest number came from Robotech; e.g. Warhammer, Archer, Wasp, Stinger and Phoenixhawk. Essentially, the game was started by a bunch of people who wanted to find a use for their models of mecha beyond letting them gather dust on the shelf.

Personally, I'm of the mind that Battletech started to go downhill w/the 4th Succession War, when that whole "some faction manages to pull 2,000 'mechs out of its ass and no one had a fucking clue they existed" bullshit started and the spiral was intensified by the arrival of the clans.

If you have/can get your hands on a copy of the original rulebook you'll note that there were no 'mechs still in production and the Successor States all relied on battlefield scavenging/salvaging and dwindling supplies of Star League equipment to keep their patchwork armies in the field. Then things got changed so that a few 'mechs were still in production and spare parts were still being manufactured. Soon after that everyone and their grandmother had a 'mech production facility in their backyard...

Yep, this is what happens to a game/ruleset when the munchkins are listened to. It's too bad that so many things that are essentially Post Apocalyptic get trashed by people's unwillingness to stick with the gloomier aspects of a setting...
