haha what the hell kind of course is 2-d design. i designed 3-d houses using autocad in grade 11. i did a 2-d car, top, front and side in grade 10 both on paper and on autocad. 98 firebird if anyone was wondering.Neon Dingo wrote:Celluloid love is a grave digger and he enjoys digging up dead stuff and raping it.
Update: I am going to college at the University of North Texas majoring in 2-D Design and something about drawing? I don't really remember.
Anyway, I'm not paying for it because my dad randomly hit it big. Hooray for money, etc.
I'm only really going to college to meet people, to be honest. People around here are dick-asses.
I'll probably end up dropping out if it starts annoying me, but I figure it can't be TOO hard (Here's the part where people bitch at me and tell me how many papers they had to do). I mean, it's not like I'm majoring in something that requires any brain power.
Oh yeah, I don't have to take Freshmen English or Government because I tested out of them.
Anyway, go ahead and lock this thread or something because that's what usually happens to old threads.
just for the record, ontarios tax is around 15% on everything.
EDIT:
highschool is pointless. i did nothing and came out with a little over 70% OAC average. i wasnt even looking to goto university so i was instantly accepted for just having OACs. now im in a design course and ill probably be working as a designer for one of the big three automakers in a couple years.Phias wrote:To respond to the topic...
I do not believe that college is pointless. High School, on the other hand, always seemed to be useless and somewhat pointless routine for me.

Nah, it's some graphics design major bullshit.
I'll be making websites and labels for laundry bleach for the rest of my life.
I really want to get into illustration and concept art. I've always wanted to do concept art for a videogame. That'd be fucking keen, don't you think? Getting paid to make a game look badass.

Certainly not the alcohol tax, though.Mandalorian wrote:just for the record, ontarios tax is around 15% on everything.

Don't knock on graphic design. It's a big, and very valuable, field. And, it includes both of the things you mentioned - illustration and concept art.Neon Dingo wrote:Nah, it's some graphics design major bullshit.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

You're right, it's pretty big. I just don't want to go through typography class, or as my art teacher calls it "font making boot camp." You sit in class all day meticulously designing fonts with compasses and rulers. If you're off a millimeter you are shot on sight.
I still have a guranteed internship at focus2.com, the people that designed the Wolfenstein and Quake 1-3 logos. That should get my foot in the door.

Cool. I'm into graphic design myself, which you might not suspect, though less the technological side of it (due to my lack of hardware). I do a lot of illustration, small scale posters, and stuff like that.

Posters for what?
I'm mainly into Adobe Photoshop (most people are). I probably should get into Illustrator and whatever that program is that makes things look like a sketchbook too. I've never used it.
Luckily my high school has a two-year class on graphic design. I learned a lot about typesetting, kerning, tracking, etc.
Do you use Wacom tablets?

I'd say go for the military, but I have no idea how recruiting/promoting works in your country. In here, where it's everyones duty/obligation to serve in the armed forces (either as a trooper for 6-12 months or alternatively you can do non-military service by cleaning up Handicap Hospital's toilets and stuff for twice as long) and employers generally look it as a *BIG PLUS* if you have officer training, even non-comissioned does the trick. So the whole army issue actually helps onward on the career, especially if you're looking for spots that require management/leadership skills, I think.
er,
A RECESSION is when you go to school. i.e. NOW
Furthermore don't fall into the trap that you are intelligent and others are not. It's just that most smart people have done something with their lives and are elsewhere.. (for college.. at the least they are unlikely to be in your social group) In the general population they are rare.
So basically, yes now is a great time to get an education. However, it is still a big decision as to where and what and how. So I cannot help you atm, I am merely countering the idea that you shouldn't go to school.

OTB
If you can have a great college experience, you are very lucky. random colleges will probably not do it for you, you'd have to make it to a good school i.e. top publics if not top top or be lucky. Since otherwise you'll be with dumbasses probably. So either find achievers or otherwise find a place to have the kind of fun you want.
besides your education of course.
And definitely, if you are going military, go prepared to die.
