Fallen Earth Interview

Post by Mad Max RW »

[ -> Interview]

Gamebunny aka “who the hell is gamebunny? completed a Q&A session with James Hettinger, CEO of Icarus Studios, about the MMORPG Fallen Earth. They briefly discuss influences from movies and games, trading stuff, a vague reference to magic, and a bit on classless character development:

James Hettinger:
We chose a classless character development system because we felt that class-based systems inevitably constrain what players can do. And there really is no reason to do this. In a lot of ways class-based systems are holdovers from the original D&D role-playing game. They have a lot of history but they carry a lot of baggage – they are virtually impossible to balance a class-based system. A single ability can alter the balance of the whole game. Trying to seek equilibrium becomes an endless process of chasing a moving target.

As far as players go, a class-based system restricts them to a specific character type. Our goal is for players to define their characters by their actions - what they have and what they want to pursue, rather than a pre-defined template.

Check the interview for the rest.

Hmmm, no it's not.

I can never imagine myself playing ANY MMORPG at any time.

No matter how intelligent the concept is, or how intelligent its creators are or how mature its theme is, there will always be too many fools, too many annoying bastards plaguing you at every turn for items or directions, too many hackers unbalancing the game, and too many problems to list here.

It has never been succesfully completed, and I doubt we'll see a good one soon. It's just sad how good concepts are constantly ruined by ignorant consumers.
Endure. In enduring, grow strong.

Stop covering MMORPGs, please.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

MMORPG's can be damn fun games. If you don't like them, that's just yer opinion... remember the definition of forum:

"A public meeting place for open discussion."

(one of them.)

Anyway, Fallen Earth sounds odd, looks odd, and will likely BE very odd... but a nice blend of action/mmo, with the ground deformation and vehicles could provide some entertainment *shrugs*

The only MMORPG I've ever played is Final Fantasy XI, and it's pretty damn good. I haven't seen or heard of any hackers and the newbie population pretty much fades out when you get farther into the game.

Just my opinion, though.
Closing our eyes forces us to look
At the darkness inside.
Our emotions always find us
Regardless of where we hide.
