Is it better than the Alpha that was leaked last year?

Elaborate. Tell us WHY it doesn't look good; does it add anything to the gaming world or just improve upon existing concepts; does it blow red turds... etc

I'm looking forward to Half Life 2 now, more than Doom 3, so if D3 flops, it's no big deal. Quake 4 had better be good, however.

I found little info on the beta, but nowhere to download. It originated on some German sites and supposedly weighs 631 MB and has an installer which requires a code. After a little more digging it's nothing more than a bunch of crappy fan made maps. If you remember there was a command in the old alpha leak to run an editor.

I really can't understand how anyone would sanely play a beta of an FPS and expect to truly enjoy it. It's a "BETA" for a reason, but I guess so many people are rabid over this game, it's worth it to play a game that probably hasn't been bug-tested yet.

I'd rather wait until someone here has played it(as someone probably has by now), and wait for their opinion.

I'm aware it's only a beta, but it's nothing special. Graphics aren't revolutionnary(tho it's stuck in 640x480), the guns there are are ordinary (pistol, shotgun, machinegun), they look like Halo's.

You can find it off www.packetnews.com, if you know how to work your way in mIRC and xdcc bots. I think it's 631 or 601MB and there are no codes.

There are commands to run on high resolutions, 32 bit, and several cheats for all weapons and god mode. It's the same as last year's alpha with a few crappy "patches" for people desperate to get it running along with several tweaked maps. Nothing new from id.
