bombs in madrid

Post by Mismatch »

So, they blew off some bombs in madrid...
where do you think the next ones'll go off?

And do you think Al-Q tell the truth when they say they did it, or is it just a way for them to scare ppl without really haveing to bomb anything?
And why the fck did they choose spain anyway?
Spain weren't that active either in attacking Iraq or Afghanistan.... and isnt this bombing somwhat a tredding into the Basque separatist movents territory, arent they the only legit bombers in Spain?

I don't think they (Al-Q) did it. I think it was the Basque guys.

I can't think of any reasons Al-Q would bomb Madrid....But if they did do it, then man....We need to find a new fuel (hydrogen/electric/something) and start mass marketing it so we can all just send a few friendly nukes into the mountains of Afghanistan.

Killing people is pretty stupid. Unless they deserve it, or need to be killed...Like people over 65...In the words of The Onion "If the summer heat doesn't kill the elderly, I will."

Unlikely to be an ETA job - they usually target Spanish millitary and government personnel as they don't see the general population of Spain or France as their enemies. If it was ETA, it shows a huge leap in their capability and organisation compared to their activites in recent decades.

Agreed, it doesnt look like anything the ETAras usually do. And there are a few muslims that would help Alqueida, because of Ceuta and stuff.

That, plus they usually announce their attacks.

I thought I heard they admitted they did it? Either that, or it was an assumption made by a radio news reporter.

But the only real "reason" I'd see for the muslims to bomb Spain, would be historical. The arabic invasion, conquer and exile from Spain in the 13th / 14th / 15th century or so, can't remember the years.

They took part in the coalition against Iraq.

I would wait and see what they find out in the investigations. It's risky to condemn anyone without proper evidence. Wild guesses and speculation isn't helping much. Many muslim militant groups are more than happy to take the blame for the bombing, but only a few are capable of designing such a destructive strike. ETA usually targets the Spanish administration and specific persons who oppose their views, not civilians.

Al-Reuters is extremely pathetic. Check out this newswire here

More than 24 hours after Spain's worst guerrilla attack, distraught relatives were still trying to find out whether loved ones were dead or alive, while silent protests brought Madrid and other cities to a standstill.

Emphasis in bold. Guerilla attack?! Yeah, that was some commando raid [sarcasm] Heaven forbid they call them what they truly are: terrorists, instead of using terms such as "militant" or "guerilla".

Update: La Policía Científica concluye que los explosivos y detonadores no son los habituales de ETA

Rough Translation: “The Scientific Police concludes that the explosives and detonators are not the habitual ones of ETA.

Doesn't rule them out 100%, but shines further light on the matter.

Spain was a pretty big ally of the US & Britain in the war on Iraq, so it makes sense.

Also, wackily enough, these attacks took place exactly 2 1/2 years after 9/11.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

A division of Al-Qaeda sent a letter to a London arab newspaper, saying they did it. And the police found a jeep with detonators and islamist propaganda recorded on tapes. It seems a bit fake though, maybe it's to let people think it's Al-Q who did it?

By the way, anybody heard of the 10 bombs in France? Some people are asking for 5 million euros, if they don't get the ransom they will detonate 10 bombs spread all over the french rail system. It.s not Al-Q, but still.

Well, first of all, that was just an e-mail. All that stuff seems highly faked; why would terrorists carry around their own propaganda tapes? People seem ready to blame Al-Qaeda for everything that goes wrong, so it's a very accessible scapegoat.

But whatever.

911 days after 9/11. coincidence? maybe.

Spain was the first EU to back bush on the whole iraq thing, this could point at Al queida (forgive my spelling) plus, ETA have denied responsibility for teh attacks, and usually target military and police "with" warning of some kind. however, it is very possible that a rogue cell or ETA could have done this.
i've heard on the radio this afternoon in work that Al q, claimed responsibility via a london based magazine or paper. i havent heard anything about that since today.
i dont think anyone knows for sure who did it.

my condolances to spain though. The images on sky news here are quite amazing, and show the true grit the spanish people have when faced with a travesty such as they have recieved.

Yeah it was pretty obvious from the start that it wasn't the separatists, even thought that's what everyone claimed. If you know anything about them it'll be apparent that :

1) They pretty much only car bomb
2) They like blowing stuff up, not people, that's why they always call ahead to let the officials know that there's a bomb

For them to suddenly change their entire philosophy and kill hundreds in a series of subway blasts would be pretty extreme.

Maybe it was the Al Q, that's all cool, they can't hit America any more so now their picking on it's buddies. Nice thinkin', or something. :-!

I think the ETA's goal is to rid the basque land of rest of spain, or something ?
So it would be pretty stupid if they bombed their "brethren", huh ?!

While not my preferred term either, I see no huge problem with calling it guerilla attack. Especially since very little is known about the circumstances. Who's attacking? Why?

If you keep throwing the term "terrorism" around, that'll have the same effect as the overuse of "anti-semitism" by Israel has had; the "power" of the term will diminish, 'till people just go "meh" when you use it, rather than "omg wtf"

Also, I would like to note at this point that:

1) There is a possibility that with the weaking of the ETA another Basque organisation has taken the helm.
2) Not to be too weird, but you people do realise Al-Q isn't the only militant muslim organisation, right? Just checking.

Basques aren't Spanish any more than Irish are British, Canadians are Americans or Belgians Dutch/French. Also, Basque stretches over France too, hence France's panic whenever something like this happens.

I doubt the Basques consider the Spanish their brethren. They have a seperate language, some autonomy and, arguably, a pretty seperate history (lacking a lot of the muslim history of Spain, for one)
