"Art House" Flash

Post by SuperH »

Yeaaa I watched Lost Highway last night so it messed my mind up a bit for a while, and I decided to start throwing together another bizzaro flash movie. I can't remember at the moment if I ever showed off my old one here, but the link is :

This new one is quite a bit different, style wize. Instead of being influenced by Ambient music, it's all inspired by this experimental jazz / downtempo stuff I've been listening to. See whatcha think. It's hella short right now, but I'm gonna be adding more hopefully continually. Unless this gets forgotten like that big drawing i was doing? Ahh we'll see won't we :D

Edited a new link to the new Flash

How amazingly abstract. I love it.

Thanks :D I've added a bit more now, don't think I'll be doing constant updates though, since that'll kinda ruin it if the whole thing isn't taken in at once? Who knows, but that's the way I see it. :O

Surreal too, not abstract ;) Big difference, heh.

Thanks :D It's all done in Flash MX, with my tablet. The music was cut out of an mp3 with cooledit. There's no spectacular ultra pro techniques going on in my movie, it's just a (little) bit of traditional animation with some "tweens" for the smooth motion. Doesn't take too long to pick that much up, really.

It does for me...I can't quite figure out Flash MX...I got Flash 5 pretty easily..But when they switched to MX, the interface just blows me away. Can't do anything in it.

They kind of oversimplified it. Just mess around for a day or two and you'll be using it like a pro. My biggest problem is my mediocre drawing skills, though that doesn’t seem to stop a lot of the people making flash movies these days. (see: Newgrounds)

I was just wondering how you did the motion tween rotations with the buttons (on the rolling head). Explain? (I am also a flash user, I deal more with action script than animation though...)

The buttons are simply inside of a Movie Clip, which is the head. The head is tweened to move and therefore anything inside the Clip is moved appropriately as well. This'll work for anything, as far as I know, once it's made into a Movie Clip you're given free reign to do whatever you like - and stuff like buttons keep their own properties, within the clip, as well.

Yeah, I would do some actionscripting movement in my new movie, if I remember how, heh. The old one had it with the flying guy, that was simple "sliding" actionscripting. Don't know if there's a technical term for it or not, heh.

The only bad thing about putting buttons inside other things is that they usually lose their actionscripting (but that doesn't apply to your movie).

I would call it more of a "Cursor follow" thing...

If you have any questions about AS, ask me because I know a few things that may help.
