Colons suck

Post by Franz Schubert »

Has anyone noticed that in recent years a lot of games/movies/books that have been coming out have had titles with colons in them? I just found out STALKER's full name is "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl" Why the fuck do they feel the need to include the crappy little "Shadow of Chernobyl" subtitle? Same thing with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Wouldn't it have been fine to just leave it at "Pirates of the Caribbean"?

Or Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World? Or Breakin' II: Electric Boogaloo?

Its just the cool thing to do, and you get the bonus of having a huge acronym to express your game title. Especially with stalker already being an acronym anyway.

I just find it really annoying and superfluous. I mean, nobody goes around saying "Hey, did you ever see Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl?" I don't even say "of the Caribbean", I just say "Pirates".

I don't talk about pirates. yo.

They recently changed the name of stalker from oblivion lost to shadow of chernobyl. :(

I don't really mind about colons, it just adds to the mystary. I prefer single words. I thought the inclusion of a colon in the lord of the rings trilogy fitting though.

That's totally different. Lord of the Rings isn't the name of the book.

They should only use colons if they know that there will be a sequel, or other movies after it. It's pretty pointless to just add on that extra crap if it's a single movie/thing.

The worst colons are the ones that have no connection outside the movie. The Curse of the Black Pearl is stupid because we have no idea what this "Black Pearl" is. The Far Side of the World is slightly better, if a bit cryptic. Shadows of Chernobyl is just cheesy.

Or just Pirates of the Carribean. Why does it need to be complicated? Everything you need to know is right there in those four words. Pirates! Carribean! What more do you need?

If you find colons annoying Franz I suggest you dont even look at some book titles of past centuries. They where pretty popular in those times.

There is already a game named stalker(never played it) and its the same with pirates. Just dig a little amd you will seen its hard to come with original title, gotta wait 75 years to use them again.
