Press Still Waiting for STALKER Gameplay
[ -> Preview]

In a recent presentation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at the Russian RGD conference, members of the press got to have some hands-on experience running around a futuristic Chernobyl. According to DTF it’s turning out to be more of a safari game than a shooter. Translated by Oblivion-Lost:
Unfortunately, GSC has not showed anything except nice decorations and physics. There were almost no monsters, just a couple of doglike creatures, that gladly ate both us and corpses of creatures of its kind, which barely count. One can hunt the birds, which look nothing like monsters, but there is no reason to (note: there were no birds in "Roadside Picknick"!), and we had to shoot the humanoid with tentacles on his head without looking. The developers could not show any good animation. It turned out that it is not yet integrated into this implementation. By the way, the AI, which is never mentioned without the prefix "revolutional" was also missing.

In a week there will be another presentation that hopefully shows off solid gameplay. You can check the rest of the article here, but it covers more of the same old fancy physics things and anomalous zone dealies. Oh yeah, and it looks like the name change to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is final with the homepage updating and all.

I hope that no one tries to pressure them into finishing the game faster... that's how crappy games are made.
Even if there isn't a lot of heavy combat or anything (there will probably be lots of killing though, either monsters or humans) I hope that the story is realistic and involving. And the "quests" (missions, jobs, whatever you want to call them) are realistic and power the story well, but also little ones that benifit you. I hate little quests that don't benifit you in any way and appear to be something that was supposed to effect the whole game but it was never implimented so they just left it in...
I hope everything is implimented. (didn't they say that all their concepts made it into the game? that's good news)

Ha, they never changed it from Oblivion Lost in the browser header bar. THERE IS HOPE (cough hack wheeze).
Oh well. I still hope this next demo shows more solid gameplay and such. I have high hopes for this game and don't want to be let down, especially in a market where games like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel are considered "good" or "quality" games by the average consumer.

Hell yes. The apocalyptic Stalker:Shadow of Chernobyl is sliding down into the apocalypse. Their own apocalypse, that is.

What you talkin bout Willis? Every person I know (Save 1) insists that its a horrible game. When I bought my review copy, the guy at the counter honestly tried to talk me out of it and spent 10 minutes doing so.jetbaby wrote:especially in a market where games like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel are considered "good" or "quality" games by the average consumer.
Harriers for the cup.
Well, the game developers at least insist that it's good.

Exactly. You can't even predict a good game anymore. Everyone gets high hopes and it turns to crap or is never released.

I've heard bits and pieces, and I heard good things. Is there a playable demo?
