More Prison Stuff.
If someone is incarcerated, do you think they should be able to donate organs? It's illegal in the US because the person no longer has rights to their organs..The state owns them.
Should organ donation be mandatory?
Would you accept an organ from a prisoner?
I think organ donation should be mandatory for all prisoners on death row, or at least with life sentences. Just put them into a nice little sleep, remove their organs, and let them die. Seems pretty logical, and it helps as many people as his/her organs are useful for.
I'd be more than happy to take an organ from a prisoner if I needed it. The waiting lists for organs are sometimes longer than a person has to live..Plus, I think it would be pretty cool to say "I have the heart of a killer," and be completely serious.

Heart of a killer, classic. Anyway, if an inmate wants to give their organs, let them. If the state wants to take them from someone who is sentenced to die and has no chance of repealing or whatever, take them if you want em. Most inmates would likely have damaged lungs and livers, but hell, shitty organs are better than ones that dont work.

I'd be more than happy to take an organ from anyone, anywhere as long as I needed it and it wasnt diseased. I thought that a "life" sentence was 25 years (unless the sentence was "for the rest of your natural life" meaning until you die)? When they come out they'll need that organ back, not to mention the actual jail time part. I dunno. I'm against the prison system anyways. I'm a fan of incarceration, not rehabilitation. When it costs $70,000 to jail a man each year and $7,000 to educate a child... something is wrong. With that much money invested in them I say strip them dry when they die. Not like they need them anyways if they're dead.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Ummm, no. What happens when one of our fine public officials who either has a heart condition or loves/gets money from someone with a heart condition finds out during an "unofficial" fishing expedition through medical records that you'd make the perfect donor? A little planted evidence here and there and a "tough on crime" judge who assumes everybody who comes before him is probably guilty and you're suddenly a heart donor. I don't think that's really just crazy paranoia, either, the upside for the abuser is so staggering it's probably not a stretch to say it can and would happen. Forget railroading a few bums to have a tougher-looking track record for the next election, we're talking life and death here.
And since when did the state own prisoners' organs? News to me. That's pretty screwy in itself.

I don’t think anyone proposed mandatory organ donation for simple jail time. That isn’t fair in the least. I was thinking that after someone is past their time on death row and is going to be killed for sure, their organs could go to a government organization (I assume there is one) for distributing them to whoever applied for them.
I think we all agree temporary prisoners should be able to donate their organs? I know that if someone I loved needed an organ I would be outright pissed if I couldn’t give it to them because I was in jail, and hell, you might get some guys doing it to atone for their sins or some such nonsense.

That's what I was talking about. They just frame you for murder instead of drug possession. When do you decide when to butcher someone for spare parts, too? People on death row get their convictions overturned all the time. There would be a certain incentive to expedite the process to get that meat on the organ market faster, perhaps faster than the truth comes out. Budget deficit, no problem, just chop up the guys on death row and sell them to the highest bidder. When we find out a couple of them were innocent 5 years later, hey, it's the next administration's problem.CloudNineGT wrote:I don’t think anyone proposed mandatory organ donation for simple jail time. I'm not really sure about that, either. Thing is, prisoners are in a really vulnerable postion and easy to abuse. It already happens all the time. All a guard really has to do is make your life difficult until you see the wisdom in "voluntarily" donating your kidney to some guy who paid him $5000 to lean on you.I think we all agree temporary prisoners should be able to donate their organs? Heh..I was wondering when someone would mention the "Moderator" thing.
Anyhow, I doubt the system is that screwed up to plant evidence of murder or serious crimes on someone that was pulled over with a dime bag.
I wouldn't mind having obligatory organ donation for everyone, either, as long as the organ in question isn't one that's absolutely necessary...We've got 2 kidneys, 2 lungs...We can live on one each. I'd have to quit smoking and drinking, but I'd be willing to give an organ or two. And when I'm on my death bed, or if I've been in some sort of accident where I'm 90% sure death is going to happen, then I'm more than willing to give everything I've got.
And yes, in almost every state in the US, a prisoner is owned by the state. He/she has no control of their bodies or their decisions in regards to their bodies because they are incarcerated.
However, in Texas, there is a law that allows rapists to voluntarily castrate themselves in exchange for a shorter sentence. Oklahoma is considering the same law right now.
Any opinions on this?

Just my opinion, though.

What "system" plants evidence? "The system" is just people like us. Most of them good, a few not so good. Yeah, it sounds like a bad movie plot, but all it really takes is one rogue cop and you're spare parts.ExtremeDrinker wrote:Anyhow, I doubt the system is that screwed up to plant evidence of murder or serious crimes on someone that was pulled over with a dime bag.
Unless the procedure goes wrong, or your good organ goes. It happens more often than you'd think.I wouldn't mind having obligatory organ donation for everyone, either, as long as the organ in question isn't one that's absolutely necessary...We've got 2 kidneys, 2 lungs...We can live on one each.
Great, and that's your choice. If you let other people make that decision for you, they might not necessarily have your best interests at heart, though.I'd have to quit smoking and drinking, but I'd be willing to give an organ or two. That's why I love this place. Kind of grisly I guess, but if it's their choice and nobody else is really getting much out of it, it's alright. However, in Texas, there is a law that allows rapists to voluntarily castrate themselves in exchange for a shorter sentence. Yeah...A friend of mine was raped a few weeks ago...The guy didn't even go to jail..The cops went to his house and questioned him, and that was it...They believe it was "consentual".
So we went out and destroyed his car. Not really a good payback, but it made us feel a little better. He works at a bar across the street from Denny's, so we always get a good laugh when his newly destroyed Civic pulls up on 4 donuts, bags covering the broken windows blowing in the breeze.
Plus he got his ass kicked really good 3 or 4 times.

the deal with organ donation is that if someones organs give out they shouldnt get new ones. i dont know why drunks can pooch their liver and then get a new one to kill. just like smokers get help when the kill their throats and stomachs and lungs with smoking. they fucked up their organs, they should have to deal with them.Megatron wrote:NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
They should bring that back. But on a smaller scale. And replace christianity with marshmellows or something.
what if you were innocent while your liver is being heavily used by some crasy avencher?
if your organs just die, well then you got shafted.

I agree...If you caused your own organ damage, you get no organs in return..You can just die.
But...If someone has a natural defect that requires a transplant, then they deserve a new organ..Or even from an accident...Like get some re-bar through a lung while driving by a construction site, then yeah..You should get an organ.
Screw the elderly..If your organs give out after age 65, then it's your time, bitch. Die like you're supposed to.
This also opens up the debate on stem-cells/organ cloning...I wouldn't mind having a pre-fabricated organ.
