In a summary, the movie is about four brothers living in the Finnish countryside. They're from a deeply religious home, so they never drink, smoke nor fight. They're father is an asshole, with real mental issues and he certainly doesn't follow the "practice as you preach"- rule. He's a schizophrenic alcoholic who enjoys committing adultery... He beats up his sons and his wife. In the end, his wife and the mother of his sons dies and his insanity gets even worse. So these boys, three of them grown-up already, have to take care of their father and themselves, even though they live in a shabby cabin in the woods and only the youngest one of them has been to school.
Sooo... The movie's based on the true story of "the Eura Daltons", named after the infamous Dalton brothers from wild west, who saw no other choice under these circumstances than to start stealing money. They began with tearing off slot machines from gas stations, moved on to post offices and finally hit a bank, but were caught later after that. The movie characterises the brothers as good-hearted, simple and nice persons in general, who just wanted to live normal life instead of living like animals with no money and no dignity. Their father is the über-evil character with violent behaviour and mental domination over his sons, played by the genius Vesa-Matti Loiri, a true grand old man in the Finnish entertainment business.
I was surprised that the movie was as good as it was, because it had been advertised as a "happy and funny story with bright colors and silly puppies" but it was quite dark and even depressing at times. It has quite big hunks of odd Finnish humor, which might leave some foreign viewers like :confused2: , but that ain't such a big deal. Anyhow, I recommend watching it. It's surprisingly good, when you take into account that it's made in Finland.
I give it
