Walt, what the hell is going on in that news bit?
I'm almost for what they did, Christian kids should understand what Easter is about, and that crucifixion isn’t fun. Building awareness sounds good, and being of a nonreligious perspective I still feel that if people are going to practice their religion they should at least understand what it is.
If you are religions, shouldn't you teach at least near the truth? I mean really. Easter isn't about happy rabbits and easter egg hunting. I dunno. I plan on raising the kids i may have one day that truth is a pretty good policy.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!
It's all bullshit anyhow. Raising kids on Santa Claus and instilling capitalist values in them. Jesus doesn't sell Christmas as good as Santa. It all has an alterior motive.
Its a good thing we're avoiding generalized insults. And before this somehow turns into another religious argument, lets not and say we did. I think we've had enough of those.
Edit: Also, I knew what Easter was about since I was 3. Its just people (ALL people, not just christians) are so politically correct these days that something like telling a kid about the cruxifiction or showing them any violence or nudity is like some sort of crime. No wonder why it felt like forever to grow up, everythings boring when you're a kid which is why you need toys and imiginary friends and crap.
Easter (Eostar or Ostara) is actually that pagan holiday for the vernal equinox. Yet another addition by the church to recruit more sheep to their flock. The bunny, the oldest pagan symbol of fertility (egyptian or babylonian I believe) - Semiramis - has absolutely NOTHING to do with the resurrection. And the mass should be at night since Jesus was resurrected AT NIGHT according to the bileball. Sunrise services were for the sun god. The eggs? Also Semiramis, Semiramis died, a huge egg dropped from heaven. Out of the egg came a reincarnated Semiramis, now a goddess. So that's what Easter is about, not a Jew rolling his broken down ass out of a crypt.
Thats what it may have been about when it started, or the reason why certain traditions started, but isn't it fair to say that the meaning of easter has changed, especially since Pagan has only become a really minor religion in the world?

Also, you forgot the bit about "Cross buns."
As long as the pope holds a pagan title (pontificus maximus) I refuse to recognize the catholic church as monotheistic. Just because you cast minor gods off as "PATRON SAINTS" or some other such nonsense doesn't make it any less ridiculous.
