I wouldn't really rank Evil Dead with zombie movies. Well, maybe, but they far outshine the rest of the Genre.
"Science fiction wiggers" is my new favorite phrase.
"You'd better be prepared for the jump into hyperspace. It's unpleasantly like being drunk."
-"What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"
"Ask a glass of water."
-Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Thanks Ray, what's Evil Dead about again?Fallout Junkie wrote:Don't you mean (Dead Alive), evil dead and braindead are two completely different movies.s4ur0n27 wrote:Wow. The whole point of seeing a zombie movie is to see zombies killing people and getting chopped.
Anyway, no they aren't all the same, go watch Braindead (Evil Dead).
Not really sure, I've only seen the 3rd one.s4ur0n27 wrote:Thanks Ray, what's Evil Dead about again?Fallout Junkie wrote:Don't you mean (Dead Alive), evil dead and braindead are two completely different movies.s4ur0n27 wrote:Wow. You could always try House of Horrors for more infomation on it.
EDIT:
The story is a simple one. Five college students venture into the wooded mountains of Tennessee to spend a weekend of fun in an isolated cabin. Is this your standard weekend of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll? No...unfortunately, our heroes find the "Book of the Dead", play a tape recording of demonic incantations, and unknowingly open a portal to the netherworld.
The "Book of the Dead", bound in human flesh and inked in human blood, contains the ancient rituals that cause the spirits of evil to awaken and possess, one by one, the poor innocent students. As the survivors see their friends and loved ones transformed into hideous, murdering demons, they learn that the only way to kill the possessed is to dismember their bodies.
Who will be next possessed by the evil dead? Will anyone survive this night of terror? I won't tell. Rent this movie, you won't regret it!!!!! The Greatest Horror Movie of All Time!!!!!

The second one is also pretty interesting. As we can surmise, Ash is the only one to survive the night and Evil Dead 2 entails his second day & night at the cabin along with the few people who come to join him for a visit. This also explains why Ash is in King Arthurs court in the 3rd movie.
The series also changes radically through the three movies. The 1st is almost a pure straight up horror movie with very little comedy. The second seems to be a splicing of action and horror with a very interesting sense of humor. The third is something of an action comedy. All three of the movies have a very distinctive feel and such and most people wouldn't think it was directed by the same guy.
Also - Any scenes that are used from the 1st movie in the 2nd or 3rd are new because the crew couldn't get the rights to use footage from the original movie or some bizzaro reason. So yea, it seems like they changed the story allitle in part 2 but thats the reason why. (It becomes that it was just Ash and his girlfriend instead of Ash, his best friend, his girlfriend, his best friends girlfriend, and his sister.)

Oh yea, I remember. Bruce Campbell kicking plenty of asses. I saw the first one, and Army of Darkness as well. First one was an OK movie for it's time I guess, but AoD was great. The part with the little Ashs and the one with the second head were so funny.
And this movie had the best one-liners ever : "Who wants some?", "Come to the king baby", "What's that on your face?".

Probably the biggest thing to keep in mind for the first one was it was filmed while as a college project. I think it took like 4 years to make or something like that.
I was always partial to "Groovy" from the second film. The PS1 game had a quote I liked "Say hi to Disco for me" if you wanna count that as official canon. It was voiced by Bruce Campbell.

Actually it took them 11 weeks with a budget of $300,000. Or at least that’s what the website says.Wolfman Walt wrote:Probably the biggest thing to keep in mind for the first one was it was filmed while as a college project. I think it took like 4 years to make or something like that.

I remember somewhere on my special addition VHS (Old school) It said it took them something like 4 years to complete it, they were vague. Maybe they ment pre-production and post-production as well?
Edit: As for the game, I actually liked it. It had bad graphics, bad controls, but the plot was ok, and the voice acting was good. It was interesting. One of the few playstation games I actually bothered to complete.

On the general topic of zombies, I would like to throw a hook into things.

There are always the ultra-popular RE games, which I don't like much. There's House of the Dead too, in arcades I think.
Did anyone try Eternal Darkness on GC? Dunno if it's a zombie game or more horror, but I heard some good things about that game. now that my brother bought a GC I might buy Eternal Darkness.
