Another Picture
Hey again, everyone. Here's another picture that you might be interested in. I drew this one almost two years ago, so the quality isn't nearly as good as my more recent pictures (such the NYC one I just posted), but it's still one of my favorites.
It's nowhere near perfect, and I've improved a lot since I drew this, but I still like this one. Anyways, let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Very, very sweet car. The girl's hair looks a lot better longer (how's she going to find a barber in the wasteland, anyway?) It's nicer when it's all long and scraggly. Good work.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
Yes Kashluk, I am something of a muscle car fan. And I agree about the mushroom cloud; that's the one part of the picture I'm not really satisfied with. Since I drew this picture I've improved quite a bit at drawing good explosion effects.
As for the girl, she's essentially the same design as the new one, except with longer hair. If you like this version better, that's fine, but I would wait until you see the actual movie featuring the girl before you form an opinion on her; she looks much better in animated form than in the sketches I've made.
Also, concerning the overall quality of the girl compared to my newer picture, there are 2 things I should mention. First of all, I can't take all the credit for the girl in this picture. I drew this one before I had much skill at drawing figures, so the pose and body of the girl were copied from another picture I found online. Secondly, the newer pictures I've submitted aren't really my best work (at least not as far as the quality of the characters is concerned), as I drew them with more of a focus on the details of the setting. Here's one of my better (although not really post-apocalyptic themed) character drawings...
It's still not perfect (the legs could use some work), but I think it's definitely an improvement over the quality of my older stuff.
at oga- why is it that when I type your name in a post, the forum changes it to the word "idiot"?? Anyways, in response to your comment about the hair- I figured that a shorter hairstyle would suit my final version of the Fallen Angel girl better due to the fact that long hair would probably get in the way during combat. I would imagine she'd just use her knife and cut off her hair at the shoulder to keep it short. I also went with a shorter hairstyle because long hair is about 100 times harder to animate... :confused2:

There's a censor on my name. Whenever it's typed, it becomes "idiot". Atoga idiot a toga i diot. You can blame JJ86 for implementing the change (though it was my idea).RobsH66 wrote:at oga- why is it that when I type your name in a post, the forum changes it to the word "idiot"??
Keep up those wacky drawings. How's the progress on Fallen Angel going anyway?

Cool picture. Like the girl, LOVE the car. explosion is fuzzy though, ha. And I never noticed the censor on atoga's name. Kind of funny, kind of cruel. Makes me laugh either way.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

I can't help it, but I still think a long-haired woman with actually some clothes on fits the post-apocalyptic theme better than this anime-styled pornish chick ... I mean, you can see her *lips* through her pants, to cry out loud!
And, besides - dirt, blood, small stones etc. feels nasty on bare skin. While taking a stroll through a desert full of hostile inhabitants, I would rather wear an all-covering but thin layer of clothes rather than bikinis (or shorts, whatever).
And, besides - dirt, blood, small stones etc. feels nasty on bare skin. While taking a stroll through a desert full of hostile inhabitants, I would rather wear an all-covering but thin layer of clothes rather than bikinis (or shorts, whatever).
Here we go again.
First of all, the outfits are almost exactly the same. The only difference is the hair. Maybe you're thrown off by the fact that you can't see the face or what she's wearing underneath the jacket. If you could, her face would most likely have the same anime style as Sera's (since that's the way I draw all my characters), and her shirt would probably be similar as well. I find it strange that her outfit is now being compared to a bikini. For Christ's sake, she's wearing a tank-top, pants (not shorts), and a jacket (again, the exact same thing as the girl in the older picture I've posted). That seems like more than enough clothing to get by with. She does eventually lose the jacket, but that is not by her choice, and she remedies the problem by changing outfits later in the series, once she finds some replacement clothes.
Secondly, what do you mean you can see her lips through her pants??? I don't know what pictures of Sera you've been looking at, but they're definitely not any that I've drawn. In fact, I think I've only posted one picture that shows Sera from the front (this one). The only thing I can think of is maybe you're mistaking that line on her pants for some kind of strange camel toe, when it's actually just a seam. This is something that is common with most types of pants. Here are some examples...
And I can assure you, I've heard plenty of reasons why an outfit that covers the whole body would be better than a more revealing one. However, there are also plenty of reasons why a smaller outfit would make sense. Think about the climate, for example; Fallen Angel is set in the southwest United States, a land that is primarily desert. Add to that the effects of a large-scale nuclear war on the planet's atmosphere, and the issue of temperature becomes a much larger problem. A smaller outfit gives much better ventilation than something covering the entire body. In addition to that, there's the point I've made before about maneuverability- for someone who needs to be agile, a lightweight and unrestricting outfit that doesn't get in the way has obvious benefits. Sure, you could make the point that a jumpsuit or something of the like would be better suited for such a job, but then you'd also have to consider how she would go about finding something like that. It's much more likely that she could find an old tank-top and pants than a properly sized protective suit.
In the end, it's easy to come up with plenty of arguments for either style of clothing. It's mostly a matter of opinion, and I personally prefer a more revealing outfit for Sera, for the reasons I have mentioned as well as the fact that I intended for her character to have sex appeal. There have always been characters in games and movies who have worn outfits that aren't realistic. Sometimes, creative liberties have to be taken in order to make the character's appearance more interesting.
I'm considering not releasing any more pictures of Sera until the movie is released, because it seems like everyone is just focusing on her outfit and ignoring the other aspects of the pictures. Also, people seem to be getting this scandalous pornstar-ish impression of the girl, and I don't want anyone forming opinions like that before they've even seen the actual movie. Let me know what you guys think on the subject.
Oh, and Jimmyjay86, in response to your question- I can color them (I'm pretty handy with Photoshop), I just usually don't have the time to do so. That's going to change in a few days, though, as I'm about to be finished with my school year and will have much more free time for such things. I think I'll probably color the NYC one, and I'm also pretty sure I'll color a sketch of Sera that I'm working on right now, as soon as it's finished.

If that's the case, why don't you just ditch the clothes altogether? It would save you the trouble of drawing them, and your girl would be well-ventilated. Sounds like FOBOS.

Ok Robs666 my dear gringo , after reading your posts , in my opinion you have only one valid reason .
Robs666
As for the other reasons , they are just bullshit , you try live in a desert with those clothes and let's see how much time you last. I have lived in the sahara desert for 2 months , and let me tell you , while using my uniform I also had to use a cloack that covered my body from my feet to my head. Why not some beach shorts and a t-shirt you ask ? By using a cloack or some other clothes that covers your body it will protect you against the sun , the wind , the insects and the sand . Tho most of the conditions belong to African deserts , alot of them resemble a post apocaliptic desert .
Your pretty little girl would be very sexy in the desert with that outfit , but after an hour or so , she wouldnt look so hot believe me.

Sure I agree with you , you want to make your character more attractive to men and maybe yourself , I am thinking Tank girl meets sailormoon.Sometimes, creative liberties have to be taken in order to make the character's appearance more interesting.

Don't take it too seriously, man... We just happen to be a bunch of negative 50's science fiction fans and therefore sex isn't a discussable issue It's my personal opinion, that if you want to make a strong female character (a warrior spirit, if you may) - then try to avoid the sexual stereotypes like big breasts, very little clothing... pretty much all the most obvious feminine things that show outside. A blonde bimbo with D-cups won't survive when the shit hits the fan. But, of course, you've chosen your own style and have drawn a great deal of the series already so I'm babbling just for nothing, eh?
Fair enough... I guess it is just a difference of opinion, then. I've always had a distaste for those warrior-like female characters with no feminine qualities; they come off as too man-ish for me. I think my tastes lean more towards the style they use in anime and most modern comic books, where the female heroines are usually more voluptuous and feminine. To each his own, I suppose.
Anyways, does that mean you guys would like to keep seeing new images of Sera, or not? I'd rather not keep submitting images of a character if nobody here likes her; it's somewhat discouraging. So please, let me know your honest opinion.
Thanks again for the comments.

jesus guys, if you want to talk about realism lets talk about how she isn't atomic ash with that H-bomb going off a few miles away. I agree with the 'blond bimbo' deal though. A non-sexualized character (like in Bungie's ONI) is more engrossing than watching tits flail around in some sort of post-apocalyptic mastibatory session.
Fuck You
